“Yes, but, Melina… That was to cure her!” Father began to twiddle his thumbs, unwilling to make eye contact with her. “If… If the poor girl is gone… then I can’t imagine what even that doctor will be able to do for her… Come now, Melina, be reasonable.”
“Reasonable?” She clenched her fists. “You’d still be trying if it was me who had died. Janice’s family don’t have access to this doctor who still wants to try to save her, so it’s up to us! Come on, Father, where’s your humanity?”

Janice dies of an incurable illness in Melina’s place. Melina thinks she’ll do anything to bring her back.
This is the second chapter of this fic! So this is its second half, which roughly covers the events of the Eternal Diva movie.

I didn't actually manage to finish my fic in time for today's @plyuriweek prompt, but here's a snippet from the draft.
An envelope appears on the doorstep, practically between one instant and the next. The front simply bears her name in precise calligraphy, and the wax seal bears the outline of a rabbit.
Eve gently, carefully, unseals the envelope.
To Eve Belduke,
I am issuing you — and you alone — a challenge. You may consider me the one responsible for the death of your father. If you fail to take action, the Storyteller will die next.
