what doesn't make sense/is weird about Rudy? Also yeah hope the disabled character is there for more than being disabled and dying and causing angst for ableds
I'm a firm believer in checkov's gun, so if something is set up, there's a reason for it. If you're shown a gun on the wall, it's going to go off.
Even if a character is a red herring you do still need an explanation for why they were acting that wayβ or the audience will just feel kind of cheated.
What I think is weird about rudy that doesn't make sense is that he has so many moments that feel like setup that would not be logical to put there if all he was going to do was die??
Then there's also the fact that. If he isn't the knight and like Carol or Dess would be, he almost CERTAINLY would have to know something. Considering the vague mention that "holidays are full of surprises", the fact that the black katana and the conspiracy board are in his and Carol's SHARED bedroom, and the fact that noelle mentions kris keeps coming to the hospital even if you've only been there once before. If he's not the knight he's still definitely in on the conspiracy in some way, especially because. Him and Asgore Clearly talk, and that guy is adamant about proving the dark worlds to be real, and if you were going to confide in anyone would it not be your best friend?
There's no way that Rudy wouldn't at least have heard of their existence, and if he didn't believe Asgore I feel like their relationship should be more strained than it is (because rudy doesn't seem to play games about his daughters) and he should have more objections to his wife funding Asgore's research??
Then there's just something I personally find convincing that's a more meta aspect. There's two named characters from Deltarune that we knew of before the game first came out. The first one being Susie, or "Suzy" mentioned by Clam girl in undertale.
The second being Rudy in the undertale alarm clock dialogue. It alludes to both his daughters with an emphasis on his youngest but even with Noelle's massive importance to the story she never gets name dropped but her dad (and his gay ass relationship with asgore) does???
Speaking of Rudy's gay ass relationship with asgore, there's so much emphasis on it from the start that I'm starting to consider that it will become plot relevant or something. I didn't think that before chapter 5, but why the fuck are all the Rudy parallels there if not to Say something we're going to come back to. Why is there new shit going on with him and asgore every chapter. Why set this relationship up BEFORE THE GAME EVEN RELEASED.
It would make sense if that relationship was central to the plot in some way, which would only make sense if either Rudy or asgore was going to end up being very plot important moving forward, and seeing as Asgore just got Goat-napped to fuck off to the shelter, there's only really one candidate for following up on that thread.
Speaking of "Rudy is going to be important", remember the goner maker? And the fact that it reacts to the names of certain people? I saw someone else talk about this so I checked it out.
It reacts solely to either. The main characters, main characters and shopkeepers from undertale, a couple of your classmates, Gaster, and RUDY.
I went back myself to enter Carol or Dess/December, NOTHING.
And they're still definitely going to be important!! So why the fuck is RUDY the outlier here???
This is my point, sure there are hints that he's the knight but what is much more convincing to me is just. The attention he gets narratively. You can talk to him the most out of probably any background lightner??? He has so much more dialogue (if optional) than basically everyone else.
Why the fuck is this guy everywhere??? Why is he always saying mysterious weird vague shit?? Why are him and Asgore so GAY??? Why does the game keep track of how much you've talked to him?????????
And why does the fox man feel the need to draw our attention to it by setting all of that up in the first place???
Like this is not even just. I'm going to die and come back wrong when my daughter tries to resurrect me behavior. This is some whole other shit.
Anyway I still think he's the knight but I do also think Carol would 100% have to be helping him (and I think she's probably?? The one carrying the people to the shelter? She seems like she could do that) and she would probably be covering for him whenever he ditches the hospital.
If he's not the knight, which is certainly still a possibility, he would have to be doing some other big plot relevant scheming shit but I'd have no idea what else that could be until they come out with it.
