Gates of hell are open, bad spirits are abound, you must pray for protection, eat comfy foods, make an offering, and sing songs to keep them away. Then next day, the sun comes back and it is thank good spirit time and it becomes new year.

Plans are having chocolates (nabbed from Christmas clearance), rosé wine, playing cards against humanity (ok probably a bad game to play for this holiday but I feel like it's less evil than poker) and going to make Peking duck for dinner. Gotta set up an altar too. I feel like there's Christmas/Easter Christians and then there's Nardugan/Sabantuy Tengrists lol

For the life of me I can't remember if we're supposed to bathe on the new year eve or new year day. I think it's the new year day to wash the old year away.
