thinking about how a pretty core aspect of jud and blanc's relationship, at least in the movie, is that they have to potential to catastrophically hurt each other.
blanc could decide that jud isn't innocent after all. blanc knows that he won't because he knows jud is innocent, but jud doesn't have any real reason to believe blanc will stay this determined to prove his innocence. he could simply give up, tell geraldine that jud did it, and nobody would question it. however, jud "former street kid/murderer/addict/possibly sex worker" duplenticy is probably used to being viewed as A Bad Kid and blanc is so thoroughly sure that jud is not A Bad Kid that jud can't help but trust him and put his faith in him.
meanwhile, jud knocks blanc so off-kilter with his disarming personality and his painful earnestness that blanc can't keep him at arm's length. blanc cares about jud, and if jud turns out to be hostile to blanc's queerness or his godlessness or what have you it would be genuinely painful for blanc no matter how much he wants to pretend it wouldn't be. because at this point in his life he's probably managed to extricate himself from everybody who would take issue with his identity, but now he's fallen in with someone who works for Taking Issue With His Identity Central. and yet, jud never seems to be anything but kind and welcoming, and blanc eventually relaxes into that. jud never ends up rejecting blanc for anything about him.
they're both simultaneously putting their hearts in each other's hands and waiting for the other shoe to drop.
they're this but that arrow is pointing both ways
blanc's reaction to "god didn't hide me or fix me, he loves me when i'm guilty" complete with father jud's gesticulating hand looking like it's either about to cradle his face or grab him by the neck... whatever daniel craig was doing in this catholic horror movie is like catnip for insane gay people (me)
Twenty-one tons of potatoes are up for grabs at Potato Palooza on Monday.
The nonprofitâs set to receive a donation of 21 tons of tubers this weekend from suppliers in the Midwest. Hoping to get the starchy vegetables to people in need, the nonprofit will host a âPotato Paloozaâ event on Monday in Park Hill. âAnyone is welcome to come. They can bring tote bags, wagons, you could back up your pickup truck if you wanted to,â Hissong said. The event is 9 a.m. to noon at the Park Hill Food Recovery Hub, 6090 East 39th Avenue, on July 27.
This is the dream

the irony of the betrayal scene is that grace has actually managed to have about half of his character arc by that point and the very fact that he's saying "no" demonstrates that he's getting closer to being the brave person stratt needs on her side, just not quite close enough. he's being firm to say he's not just gonna do whatever people ask of him and he's exhibiting vulnerability and trust in a personal relationship by believing that stratt will hear and respect his answer. let us not forget that this is the man who did Try to resist getting put in the argon death cube but ultimately rolled his eyes and went "ugh kinda bossy but whatever this is okay I guess" about it. his experiences on the petrova taskforce have made him an iota stronger, and I think that's part of what makes stratt so frustrated in that scene. the book "I don't want to die" and movie "you just canât talk me into it" lines, representing taking ownership of his desires and an unwillingness to be passive to others' wants, are both breakthroughs for him and things he would have been too cowardly to say earlier in the timeline, and she definitely knows him well enough to be able to see that. I think there's a part of her that's thinking "if you'd only done this faster and been the person who learned how to say no two years ago then maybe by now you'd be the person who's learned how to say yes."

grace was brought onto the vatt to create a breeding system for astrophage right? he demanded to be put back on the project and he got to keep the temporary lab back in SF, but the moment he figured out how astrophage reproduced is when he was brought over to the carrier in case things blew up. that's fair, that makes sense.
the problem is stratt knows grace's presence will become largely superfluous the moment blackpanels come into the picture. which is wayyy before grace personally meets reddell, since she implies it all the way back during their meeting with lokken. grace makes his own temporary system with the ship's nuclear reactor and what little astrophage they make IS useful to test Dimitri's spin drives, but once reddell sets up the farm in the Sahara desert grace has virtually no reason to stay on the ship. like his job is done. he's the leading expert in the field, sure, but so are hundreds of biologists working around the world from the comfort of their home labs, he could very well just go back to the US by that point... or that would be the case if stratt didn't keep shoving unrelated work into his hands and dragging him to europe and australia and making the other science department heads run their ideas by him first. she doesn't even have the coma gene excuse!!! dr lamai and the blood test only happen after they nuke Antarctica. from that point on she definitely ramps it up, what with having him straight up test future lab equipment for the hail mary, but i feel like she would've tasked him with teaching dubois and shapiro even if he hadn't been coma resistant.
because she likes his insufferable ass. god bless.

I really believe the âArmendsâ pun was Lestat editorializing. Not because Armand would never say that, but itâs just such a Lestat joke. I really think that he thought of it after Armand apologized and was kicking himself just waiting for another opportunity to use it, so he worked it into his retelling of Louisâ account of that evening when he was recording the Failures.
âI donât like this expression âFirst World problems.â It is false and it is condescending. Yes, Nigerians struggle with floods or infant mortality. But these same Nigerians also deal with mundane and seemingly luxurious hassles. Connectivity issues on your BlackBerry, cost of car repair, how to sync your iPad, what brand of noodles to buy: Third World problems. All the silly stuff of life doesnât disappear just because youâre black and live in a poorer country. People in the richer nations need a more robust sense of the lives being lived in the darker nations. Hereâs a First World problem: the inability to see that others are as fully complex and as keen on technology and pleasure as you are.â

As if Joanne couldn't get any shittier, she misgendered and insulted a woman who called for support, all because the woman had PCOS/PMOS and "didn't sound feminine enough."
Fuck her.
Your shitty children's series isn't more important than people's lives.

Like to charge, reblog to cast?
hearing anything about the nolan odyssey is so funny. it's like "they cut the extremely important and infamous nobody scene" "the cyclops is a giant puppet that they put in an actual historical cave + gave circe animatronics for her pig transformation instead of cgi" "they dumped plastic skeletons in an environmentally protected location they were not supposed to be in" "they recreated ancient greek instruments in order to have an accurate score" "all of odysseus's agency is basically gone" "anne hathaway actually learned how to weave ancient looms" "the women in this movie are treated like shit" "they actually buried actors alive to get those underworld shots" "did you see what the fuck zendaya was fucking wearing holy shit you can't DO THAT, MA'AM" "what do you mean there was a legitimate epic the musical reference" "NOT A SINGLE FUCKING GREEK WAS CAST IN THIS MOVIE"
like did nolan have two guys standing at his side at all times whispering ideas in his ear and one told the truth and the other told lies and they didnt tell him which was which until they wrapped production cause

Getting really tired of how all the anti porn censorship posts going around are like, "I don't like porn but I will defend it" or "it was bad for me to see porn young but it's better than the alternative." I like porn. I want to see porn. I was not damaged by seeing porn as a young person. Porn and erotica are valid and fun vehicles for artistic expression and completely normal expressions of human sexuality. We gain nothing by being squeamish in our support of porn, erotica, and nsfw content.
Except, critically, at bedtime.
Ravings and urges get miscoded over time. Letâs say youâre thirsty, and you live in a strawberry field. Strawberries contain some water and a bunch of sugar so, over time, you may start to crave strawberries when you are thirsty because you get a reward and some relief in shorter time from the need starting than the trek to the stream. This can happen for every need: sleep, food, whatever.
Trevor Noah has a great tip, that when he craves ice cream at night he breaks it down into parts: I want something cold, I want something sweet. He drinks a glass of cold water then waits to see if he still has the ice cream craving. Usually he doesnât.
So listening to your body isnât âfollow every urgeâ but âdecompose the urge to discover the underlying need.â
If you always feel like getting cozy in bed you may be: cold, dehydrated, and/or malnourished (maybe a need for high calories that are bioaccessibleâŚnot processed).
If you do not feel tired at bedtime you may: need to eat dinner earlier because your body is still digesting, need to exercise or go outside more during the day, get the fuck off your screen for an hour so your brain can enter sleep mode.
Hope this helps someone.
P.S. notice i said nothing about neurodivergence. Not that itâs not a likelihood but the over-pathologization of behaviors prevents us from taking simple actions to improve our wellbeing. Also, these tips are pretty accessible and applicable to most brain variations.
Neuroscience is the closest you're gonna get to a user's manual. This is all good advice.
