Yo. Parents be careful around nonparent friends. I have put some distance between a very good friend because she is constantly negative about my kid. She has been around a lot of traumatized adults who exhibit childish behavior. Then when my kid rightly has childish behavior, she sees it as something messed up.
I have been finding myself defending my kid to her and saying things like “10 year olds am i right?”
It has fortified my trust in myself so when she says my kid needs to be in therapy (it’s true but not in the dire way she claims), I say calmly that I have support and resources that are noticeably working.
Like i found this parent evaluation quiz and it is AMAZING. Very constructive, clear and positive and gave me the answers I had been looking for. I also talk regularly with my brother (aka superdad) and my dad (who raised superdad) and close friends from NY who knew my kid from toddlerhood. And dammit, I am leveling up. I’m not as positive as encouraging as I want to be but I’m getting so much better.
So yeah be wary of the nonparent friends. They offer wonderful perspective but parenting is like next level compartmentalization and unless they are in like nursing or some shit they may not have done that level of compartmentalization before.
And most importantly
Trust yourself.

like I mean this very seriously as writing advice. the character should experience events and make decisions that make them different at the end of the story. they should be changed. they do not have to be improved.
they can get worse. they can make decisions of an increasingly terrible nature. they can stop taking risks on kindness. they can discover how much they can get away with. they can find religion, or abandon it, with negative effects on their moral creed. the character has to develop. the character does not have to grow.

this is a common phenomenon. the better you get, the more you recognize flaws. the good thing is you can strive to get better. but the bad thing is that you see nothing but flaws. you are actually getting better, but your editing/critical brain is getting tuned up and can see more things to improve. someone post the graph, I can't find it

I mean it’s kinda the real life tragedy of love exaggerated, innit? Irl people die young or one person dies old and another person dies even older. At the end of it all someone gets left behind and has to learn how to move on after that. And for the one who dies you know you’re leaving them behind. You know you’re dooming them to moving on and if you believe in an afterlife god only knows how long you’ll be waiting for them on the other side. The tragedy of the immortal loving the mortal takes those feelings we all know about and rips your heart out about it.

I've been saying this for years. I got on LLM (large learning model) bandwagon years ago for research purposes. There is so much scientific data out there that if a program could help us get through it faster, we could really get somewhere. Anything that needs 4 or more variables assessed in tandem is so much faster with an LLM. Plus doing it as a human is super tedious and prone to errors. No one wants to do it or grad students are forced to do it alongside other responsibilities. So it would be great if an LLM could help.
LLMs learn one thing (and one thing only!) and can repeat the learned data in any way you require. Such as summaries and graphs. They can predict in the sense that after looking at 1000 items in a sequence they can guess what comes next. But the only accurate thing about them is them repeating data back at you in a condensed format.
Then ChatGPT comes out and I'm of course highly dubious of the term "AI". Lo and behold, any further reading on it reveals its just an LLM, same as any other supposed "AI" out there.
Again, LLMs do not produce something new. They repeat back what was given in the way you want. So "AI" scrapes the internet and just spews the main Google page at you but with a twist. The twist is the bad part because every extra instruction you give an LLM on how to repeat back to you, every bit more complicated it gets, the more likely it is to make mistakes. Programmers working with LLMs often have the program spit out the results of every individual step when this happens so they can fix it and move on. "AI" does not do this and people don't think to ask. People don't know to ask. They've been sold the idea that this machine thinks for itself.
It doesn't. It just echoes information from others in any way you like.
The more complicated the order (such as condensing a summary into a few paragraphs, or using a sassy tone, or explaining via pop culture analogies, etc), the more likely for things to go wrong. Because then it's trying to combine multiple learning models in one. An LLM trained on history can probably give good answers. An LLM trained on vocal tone might approach accurate sounds. An LLM trained on analogies will always make mistakes (because it would need a lot of data on each item its trying to compare). But a single LLM trying to do all three at once is going to encounter redundancies and contradictions, each request guiding it to a different outcome.
LLMs, "AI", are an echo. Echoes are just our own words bounced back. Echoes can be fun to play with. Echoes can be somewhat helpful in navigating the world when we analyze the way they bounce back.
Echoes are not another intelligent being. Echoes are not thinking. Echoes are not providing anything else that hasn't already been said before.
Please use LLMs to help make individualized cancer treatments and optimize power grids and accurately predict the weather. Please do not use "AI" for art or writing or war. Thats just the companies trying to get more use and money than the smaller user base they would naturally have.

The way my phone number is my ID, the staggering, revolting extent to which phones spy on you (it. Is. Vast. And. Intricate. Like…whatever you’re thinking…worse than that), the way phones share data about neighboring phone users so even if you have all your mic settings off it can still record you, the way your bank transactions mark where you are, fucking opportunistic prices, the way your credit score is manipulated by your tracked data, the way they embed everything useful into one spy device so you always keep it with you, the psychological manipulation to get you to give up more data (“lol i ask chatgpt everything”), the enshittification of desktop ANYTHING to force you to use more surveillant methods
But most of all
That all of this is born from, nurtured by, and progressing eugenics.
