if all there was to jud was his violent past and a present full of men like wicks he would be like a hanya yanagihara character jumping one toxic yaoi hoop after another with his refusal to roll over and take the abuse taking him from the boxing ring to the streets to a church to prison to a coffin. but blanc being the one to answer jud's prayers really does cut through that entire narrative and helps him break a cycle he's been failing to break alone for decades and infuses it with so much hope and understanding instead it's crazy. it's crazy. judblanc is crazy

it's so clear that jud duplenticy is a horny gay freak who has no idea how else to keep himself in check bc this is kind of a main prerequisite for becoming a catholic priest in the first place but even more so bc rian "grew up protestant and only made jud catholic bc i fw the architecture" johnson genuinely did not give him any reasoning for choosing the catholic church in particular other than "i can barely control myself around men that try to get a rise out of me". doesnt gaf about the seal of confession downplays guilt and repenting as prerequisites for anything just wants to hold hands with a bunch of nice middle aged ladies and sing kumbaya but the urge to get physical with men keeps getting in the way
