I'm a 20yo English major with far too much time on my hands, and far too many thoughts about a bald Supervillain. I enjoy writing analyses as well as summaries (which are just blatant comic reccomendations) so stay tuned for that. I use he/any pronouns and if you must call me anything, let it be Cage.
I have not yet read everything Lex has been in, but stuff that has a special place in my heart is pre-Crisis (particularly Silver Age), Elliot S! Maggin's work, and quite a few post-Crisis comics. I'm always open to reccomendations.
I will not keep up with Superman (2023—) until Williamson leaves the run, so I'll have no useful information there. I think there is much about Lex and his writers that can be criticized and looked at with nuance. I won't abhor anyone with rightful criticisms of his character, but I don't plan on entertaining uninformed hatred. And obviously, if you for some inexplicable reason like "Luthorcest" please stay off my page.

Wow! Really liking this warsuit. It's hard to see but the logo on the chest is not his, it's from ARGUS. I'm excited to see more on Lex's position in this film, but I'd very much like to see him make the warsuit his own at some point as well.
As with all the designs its gone through in the comics, I'm spotting a lot of borrowed or familiar concepts. Would love to see Lex add to the suit post-Brainiac as the neural control system "spine" is one of my favorite aspects of the comic warsuits. Really hoping there will be some exploration or hint towards Brainiac & Lex's history in the comics. Specifically though, the Lexiglasâ„¢ reminds me of the new warsuit Lex got in Action Comics #544 (One of my favorite issues.)
& A chronological overview of the life & times of one of Lex's top scientists! While Lexcorp employs a wealth of folks, Sydney Happersen is among the likes of Gretchen Kelley & Mercy Graves: employees of high regard and trust. Note: Cameos are not included. Not an account of every issue he's been in.
★ Introducing Dr. Happersen....
⤷ Superman (1987) #2—Where we first see Sydney! Only around for a few panels but it establishes his role in Lexcorp well enough. CW: Same issue as the torturing of Lana Lang, alongside Byrne Lex's predatory behavior towards women.
★ Build a Bodyguard!
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #446—Sydney Happersen helps Jose Delgado (the Gangbuster) to walk again.
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #450-451—Continuation of Gangbuster & Lexcorp. Sydney & Lex force Jose to operate as a bodyguard for Lex.
★ The Era of Brainiac!
⤷ Superman (1987) #31—Sydney doesn't show up until the second story, Hostile Takeover--Part III POISON PILL! Kelley and him are monitoring Brainiac.
⤷ Superman (1987) #33—Quick appearance, discussing the matter of Brainiac with Kelley and Lex.
⤷ Superman (1987) #35—Continuing to monitor Brainiac with Kelley. Accidentally refers to Lex as his first name when talking with Kelley, signaling an improperly familiar tone. The top half of this issue focuses on a dream Brainiac has when entering REM sleep.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #646—Kelley and Happersen bicker over the ordeal of Brainiac.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #647—Alone with Sydney, Brainiac wakes into his current physical form and takes control of Sydney. (Side note: This issue is where my current icon is from!)
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #648—Sydney remains under Brainiac's control, but is also featured in a flashback of Metallo's.
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #462—It's a Christmas special! Sydney remains out of control and merely cameos. A worthwhile read regardless.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #649—Sydney is released from Brainiac's control. Mostly a background/support character in this issue.
★ Working for the Heir
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #668—Lex Luthor has "died", yet rumors spread that he may still be around. Who would do such a thing? ...Sydney has been planting stories to keep his deceased boss in the public eye.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #670—Sydney and Kelley meet the clone— Australian son of Lex, heir to Lexcorp.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #672—Very quick appearance, a meeting with Lex Luthor II towards the end of the issue.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #676—Sydney accompanies Lex Luthor II to the site of a Supergirl... CW: Lex's whole deal with Supergirl/Matrix in this issue and going forward is... Ew. I'll give CWs on each issue of Sydney's that includes this.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #678—The science of Lex Luthor II is revealed. Happersen & Lex tie up a loose end.
★ Much ado with the Death of Superman!
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #686—Sydney & co. visit the tomb of Superman.
⤷ Supergirl and Team Luthor (1993) #1—Sydney needlessly defends Lex's irritability. Again, seems to have an unnecessarily familiar notion about Lex. Has become much more recurrent as an assistant and yes-man for Lex. CW: Again, the implications and ickiness of everything Lex says about Supergirl are, obviously, part of this comic.
⤷ Superman: The Man of Steel (1991) #22—Sydney gets information for Lex. This occurs over the course of only a few panels towards the end of the issue.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #687—Lex holds a conference with Sydney, and by this I mean he yells at him.
⤷ Superman: The Man of Steel (1991) #23—Sydney gets a clue on the White Rabbit. He says so, and that's literally all that happens for him here. One could skip this without problem.
★ Bury the Truth
⤷ Superman (1987) Annual #5—Sydney reports his findings on Sasha Green and must come up with a way to cover up her soon-to-come disappearance.
⤷ Supergirl (1994) #1—At a secret facility, Sydney reveals a chamber of Matrix clones to Lex. This is known as "Operation: Protomatter".
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #509—Sydney's prior coverup was sloppy, and he has to find a way to fix it.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #696—Lois Lane smells a story and Lex almost kills Sydney for it.
★ He am Sydney!
⤷ Superman (1987) #87—In trying to solve Lex's case of the clone plague, Sydney creates Bizarro II.
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #697—A continuation of the Bizarro II story.
⤷ A. Bizarro (1999) #1—Stepping out of chronology, here. Sydney convinces one of Lexcorp's PR employees, Al Beezer, to take part in a "very important project" that turns Al into a Bizarro. This is a limited series of only four issues, while Sydney is in just the first issue, I absolutely recommend this story!
★ Operation: Protomatter and Other Attempts
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #698—The preliminary reading for our next issue.
⤷ Supergirl (1994) #3—A greatly wounded Sydney shows the Matrix cloning facility to what he believes to be another scientist, only for said scientist to morph into Supergirl.
⤷ Superman (1987) #88—Sydney is tasked with sampling from and dissecting Bizarro II. Lex tells Syd he'll make him the second happiest man in the world, which could mean nothing. Superman & Lois spoil the task and Lex's state is revealed.
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #511—Sydney is given a new task in Lex's race against time.
⤷ Supergirl (1994) #4—Sydney stays on call with Lex as Matrix sets out to destroy all the possessions of Luthor's that she can find.
★ The Last Days of Sydney Happersen
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #512—Lex assumes that Sydney is Lois Lane's informant and pulls a gun on him. Sydney tries to convince him otherwise as the scientist has been one of the most loyal folks of his up to this point.
⤷ Adventures of Superman (1987) #513—Sydney stresses his loyalty to Lex once more and it seems there's a chance to cure Lex...
⤷ Action Comics (1938) #700—As Kelley reveals the truth of Lex Luthor II, Sydney monitors the dying Lex and remains the only loyal ally he has. Lex is dissuaded from blowing up Metropolis and Sydney, not wanting his boss to give up, sets off the torpedoes. An electric surge kills him.

rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point
