Author’s note: I’ve never actually made and posted a fic before so... we’ll see how this goes. Honestly, I was just appalled with the lack of Layla content so I made my own fic. Of course it goes without saying but, I do not own Laya’s character as she belongs to Marvel and this is a story of my own creation.
The night was cool and welcoming as Layla made her way towards her shared flat with her lover. As Layla makes her way down the sand covered streets of Cairo she begins to smile at the thought of the word lover, afterall she never thought she would find love again after finally deciding to cut ties with Marc. Especially not within six months of her divorce being finalized. Her smile began to grow as she remembered the first time you met.
The sun was bright as Layla made her way through the market to find some fresh produce for the week as she had just returned from a mission from Taweret and had absolutely nothing left in her flat. While looking down at the written list in her hand to check what was left to get she neglected to spot the woman quickly approaching her who was just as equally distracted. Suddenly she and the stranger both collided and lost balance. “Shit, I'm so sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings, here let me help you.” The stranger said in a flustered and embarrassed tone. As Layla went to assure the stranger that she was fine and there was no harm done she froze. In front of her was the most beautiful women she had ever seen, if it was possible her jaw might have joined her on the ground. Before she could embarrass herself further Layla accepted the hand from the woman with a small, almost bashful, thank you. Pulling up her list Layla assured the woman, “It's ok, I wasn't exactly looking where I was going either.” Both women let out shy bits of laughter. “I still am very sorry for knocking you over..”, “Layla” she supplies the stranger with her name. The woman rubs the back of her neck nervously, “Right, anyways I really am sorry for knocking you over Layla. Is there any way I could make it up to you?” Feeling bold Layla smiles at the stranger, “I know a great coffee place nearby”.
Layla was still sporting a small content smile as she reached her shared flat with the love of her life. Turning the key and placing her boots by the door on the shoe rack she called out, “Habibti I’m home, where are you?” As she moved farther in the doorway she heard the faint sounds of muffled music coming from the kitchen. Leaning against the doorway she observed as you continued to be in your own little world dancing and….baking cookies? Layla let out a fond huff, of course you would be baking at 1 am. As you turned around and finally saw her you let out a surprised squeak and almost dropped the bowl. Layla watched as you quickly took off your headphones, too excited to pause the music, and discard the bowl on the counter. She braced herself as you collided into her in an almost bruising hug. Excitedly, while burying your face into her neck, you exclaimed, “Since when did you get home!”. Chuckling at your giddy antics she gently cradles your face and nudges your nose with hers, “I just got home, and what are you up to Habibi?” she asks with a fond knowing smile. She watches as your adorably excited face suddenly turns bashful, “Well, I got hungry waiting for a certain someone to get home.” you reply as you fidget with one of her curls, “Besides, I know how much you love my cookies and I thought it would be a nice surprise. Plus, I know you haven’t really been yourself for the past couple of days.”
At this Layla’s smile falls slightly. In a small voice she asks “How do you do that?” while trying to avoid your gaze. Tilting your head to the side like a confused puppy you reply “Do what?”. Finally, she answers with a rueful smile “Read me like an open book.” Smiling at her while cradling her face like she had done yours not so long ago, “Easy, It’s because I love you. But really, what’s wrong?”. Letting out a shaky breath Layla prepares herself to finally release what has been weighing heavy on her mind for the last few days. “ It’s not necessarily anything bad; a few days ago I just began to think about how much my father would have loved you and how much I wish he was here to meet you.” she finishes with a slight sob.
“I’m sorry baby, I can’t imagine how painful that must feel. I don’t doubt that if he was here he would tell you how proud of you he is that you found love again. You deserve it.” Taking a deep breath to control her sobs, Layla gently faces you; “How the hell did I get so lucky to find someone like you?” Wiping her tears with your thumb you fondly look at her “ You didn’t have to do anything my little scarab, the day I met you I knew my soul was tethered to yours.” Layla lets out another watery chuckle at the old term of endearment, one she had only heard from her father. “Now, how about we finish those cookies and cuddle up and watch that egyptology documentary you’ve been wanting to see for ages, hmm?” Without warning she quickly attacks your face with kisses from your forehead, to your eyes, your nose, and finally your lips as you giggle and thrash about on the couch. Eventually she ceases her kiss attack and touches her forehead to yours and smiles as you both breath heavily from laughing so hard “Yeah, that sounds like a great plan.” Giggling you hop up from the couch and quickly make your way back to the kitchen. As Layla watches you she thanks all the stars in the sky for blessing her with you while absentmindedly running her fingers over the velvet box in her jacket pocket.
