yeah exactly. and see piggybacking off of this butches are consistently the queer identity that has the weirdest standards and expectations foisted upon them and is always the label scrutinized the hardest by everyone in and out of the community. there's literally always some bullshit coming from any direction. you have to be pure of heart you have to be Kind you have to work yourself to the bone in a blue collar job you have to fuck femmes you have to be a dom you have to be hot you can't be a cornball you can't be the "butchest girl twitter can handle" i guess there's a dress code? you have to be Hard but you also have to have a gooey center within you. people will laugh in your fucking face, literally tell you you can't identify as butch, if you don't fit the narrow definition of what that looks like to them. and they cite history as if that's not often cherry-picked and sometimes just straight up false too lmao, or that even if it wasn't that things can change and Will naturally change as the sociopolitical context surrounding these identities does. and i do love stone butch blues but people often invoke it as the pinnacle and standard of the butch identity. they'll say you're not butch you're "masc" as an insult (and like wtf did mascs do lmao?) if you do one or any combination of these things because butches are supposed to be Perfect. there is a standard of perfect personhood here that is not expected for other queer identities and it's bullshit. such a complete disrespect to people who have a right to self-determination in identifying with a label that feels right to them. the stuff i have seen from the lesbian community like butches and femmes themselves perpetuating this stuff... it's so disheartening.
