TADC ep 9 is about the dehumanization of performance (Theory)
Part of this is based off what Alex rochon said on a recent livestream so I'll put the clip here
Basically the important part of this clip is that it's something people haven't quite predicted but that there are clues. This makes me think that it has to be answering something that has quietly been in the background for a while.
There's lots this could be but I think this is about the 4th wall breaks. TADC is really weird about them because they're just.. not addressed? Like Jax is probably doing it because it's his coping strategy but Caine seems to be doing it deliberately for our entertainment
the FIRST line of the show is addressing us. not the mention that there's an entire theme song..
Ep 1 sets this theme not just with the theme song and introduction. What I haven't seen anyone talk about are all the weird censorship rules. we know it's not a real video game with the reveal that Caine made the circus all on his own. All the characters are adults. Why would Caine stop them from cursing ? Unless Caine needs to worry about the fact that there are children watching
this is continued throughout the series in lots of subtle ways
ep 5 has the weird message thing
Intermission time is a big one. Literally who is the intermission even for? Caine looks at us multiple times throughout as well
zooble even asks why they're doing it which feels like a way to get us to question it like what they did with the vegan thing
ep 8 even kind of has one. Caine says "and if you're not having fun, and I'm not having fun, then who IS having fun?" while facing the audience .. the answer is US !!! WE'RE HAVING FUN !!!
episode 6 especially is so full of this.
A favorite character awards? for us? in the show? the one we voted on?
Caine addresses "the committee" during the favorite character awards. Who are they?
They're us !! WE voted !!
i think this specific scene with ragatha in kinger in ep 6 is the most important though. .. like why was there randomly a camera here even though none of this part was in any of the character award videos for ep 6 wacky watch or shown at the end of the episode? What's more is this is a private emotional moment between them and it's being recorded by bubble.. they have no privacy?? I feel like this is a direct nod to the fact that the characters are performing for us and even their deepest most sincere moments arent for them
Now you may be thinking well pinecone334 where are the cameras in the show? --heh well the answer to that are the all-seeing eyes
We know he uses them to watch the cast. But what if it's to let us keep an eye on them too?
I think what's going to happen in 9 is that they're all going to fully embrace their humanity, remember their names, etc. Make amends with Caine, conjure stuff.. but would that really fill up an entire hour? There has to be something else. The one who dragged them around as toys and entertainment is gone, but the stage remains. The last step for them to fully become human is to not have to perform for us anymore. As long as they're on YouTube theyre nothing more than objects for our entertainment
Ever wonder why goose chose a circus specifically as the setting? Feels kind of random. most isekais are in fantasy lands or idk would be in a more vr-chat-like setting. But circuses have a very specific purpose-- to entertain !! it would be so so weird if that werent called out
i think it would be funny if we don't even get to see the ending because it's not for us. open ended confusing ambiguous because we don't get to know ! it's their lives not ours
one last thing that I think somewhat supports this theory is how goose talks about stuff in the show
I always thought this was interesting phrasing. idk I feel like this kinda tracks
I'm like 90% sure this is what Alex was referring to but we'll have to wait and see i suppose...
