we all know the story of how that wonderful party came to be, and we all know that rodrick had probably never had more confidence than he did that night, most likely very high, and leaning on his kitchen counter

“what’re you here for?” your voice snapped him out of it, and his dark eyes met yours. “i mean, most people don’t sit outside the old fuck’s door for no reason.”

“i guess i’m not like most people,” he snapped, going back to his moping, as you snorted, trying not to roll your eyes. “what?”

“that’s so fucking annoying.”

miles’s neck almost snapped as he turned around to look at you, disgust forming on his features. “what about it so fucking annoying, l/n?”

you laughed, “you’re being all mysterious. just fucking say it!” you thought you were being teasing enough, grin plastered on your face, but when an an angry smirk found it way to his face, yours immediately dropped, before trying to awkwardly keep your false confidence up. “i’m not afraid to admit what happened to me.”

“i got in a fight, asshole.”

you thought miles smiled, the way that the tips of his lips turned up just the slightest. for a moment, miles fairchild didn’t look like the miles fairchild that seemed to only lurk around in the corners, beat up kids, and scare teachers.

“i got into a fight, too. it was bad, i guess, but he deserved it after he—“

miles was cut off by a man walking out of the headmaster’s office, and he immediately stopped talking, looking up at the man, looking nearly resentful. you gave him a small wave a smile as he walked into the office, and all you received was a light tipped half-smile, more of a grimace, before he disappeared.

miles fairchild knew that he would probably never have a real friend. he knew that he probably wouldn’t ever find a significant other, someone to spend the rest of his life with, without him scaring them to death.
