I would watch the HELL out of a documentary about the fall of GOT!

As @jabletown pointed out to me, this isn’t even a guaranteed fallout from a show ending with an unsatisfactory ending. Star Wars’s sun has not dimmed. Supernatural is undergoing a renaissance. The story I tell is about being at a comic con in Fall 2019, the same year season 8 premiered, where there were two fan favorite GoT actors in attendance, and almost zero merch in the artists’ alley. I thanked an artist for having some stuff up, and he said he was having trouble selling GoT themed merch - not even official merch, but fanart that wasn’t even supporting HBO. This was less than a year after the show ended. And this is a sentiment I have heard again and again. Meanwhile the tables everywhere were littered with decades old fandoms, nostalgia fandoms, fandoms based on canon with disappointing and criticized endings. There were countless Harry Potter and Buffy things, things from crappy horror movies and crappier scifi, but people were interested. X-Files had an atrocious ending and you can still find things for it! What I mean is, a series ending or even having a bad ending is not always a death knell for the fandom, but the way Game of Thrones pissed people off en masse should be studied in media school.
