TW: feelings
Walking to class, I noticed this creature hiding behind the potted plant by one of the school buildings. Tried to give her food & water…
I crouched beside her for about 5 minutes when she started moving. I was thinking “Great, run along back to the grass, maybe a tree or some bushes.” So where did she run?
Between my feet where she cuddled with one of my shoes!
That’s when I was like “I wonder…” & slowly advanced my hand & discovered she welcomed my petting hands. I didn’t record or take a photo of that cause I wanted both hands free in case something went wrong. With what her being a wild animal & all.
After a while, I needed to go to class, but as I walked away, she was still in the same spot. I didn’t want her to get stepped on, so I slowly & carefully picked her up and quickly moved her to the nearest tree.
After class, I discovered Katy Perry had died (yes, I named the squirrel Katy Perry). I didn’t want a corpse to be five feet from a school building, so I talked with a teacher & she agreed I had the right idea as she gave me a trash liner & I put on gloves. I moved the body to a tree on the outskirts of the college where it would be better suited for “returning to the earth.”
Anyway, that’s the story of how I provided palliative care for a squirrel. How has your day been?
