Sebastian noticed it immediately.

“My lovely,” he said, holding up the small eyepatch between gloved fingers, “you seem to have misplaced this. Again.”

Ciel stood in the middle of the room in his little brown onesie, staring up with wide, mismatched eyes, one bright blue, the other faintly marked. His pacifier bobbed as he shook his head stubbornly.

“Don’ wan’ it,” he mumbled.

“It does serve a purpose,” Sebastian replied gently, kneeling slightly to his level. “Even if you don’t like it, little love.”

Ciel turned away from the eyepatch entirely, arms lifting instead. “Up, Bastian.”

Sebastian paused for only a second before setting the eyepatch aside, for now, and picking him up with practiced ease.

“You are particularly determined today,” he murmured.

Ciel leaned into him, small fingers curling into his sleeve. “Outside?”

“…Outside?”

“Play,” Ciel insisted, eyes lighting up. “Bastian said we go play.”

Ah.

So that was the plan.

Within minutes, Ciel was dressed in a soft yellow outfit, little socks pulled up neatly, shoes snug, and a hat that refused to stay straight no matter how many times Sebastian adjusted it. A small backpack rested on his shoulders, filled with his chosen toys, each one carefully picked with quiet seriousness.

When they stepped into the garden, sunlight spilled across the path, warm and bright.

Ciel barely waited.

The moment his feet touched the ground, he toddled forward.

“Walk carefully, little love—”

He dropped into the grass with a soft thump, already digging into his bag with full focus, pulling out a toy and inspecting it like it was the most important thing in the world.

Sebastian stood nearby, watching.

The eyepatch remained inside.

Forgotten.

For now, he allowed it.

Ciel suddenly looked up, face lighting with excitement as he waved.

“Bastian! Look!”

Sebastian’s expression softened, just slightly.

“Yes, lovely. I see.”

And for once, the contracts, the secrets, and the darkness lingering at the edges of their world could wait.
