Leona adjusted the sleeves of her dress on her shoulders yet again after they'd slipped down for what felt like the thousandth time. She really should have known those girls were up to something when they'd smiled a little too brightly and insisted the dress looked perfect on her. With a resigned sigh, she studied herself in the mirror, her fingertips drifting over her collarbones, tracing the sharp lines beneath her skin. They stood out far more than Piper's ever did. Piper had soft shoulders and graceful arms. Leona was all angles and elbows, and the dress wasn't doing her any favors. She fussed with the shimmering bodice one last time, making sure everything was fitting right where it was supposed to be, when a knock sounded at the door, followed by the familiar creak of it opening. "Leá? Your mom let me in," Jacey called from the hallway. "Can I see you?" Leona froze. For a moment, she considered saying no. The thought of her girlfriend seeing her like this sent her heart racing. Heat rushed to her cheeks. Taking a steadying breath, she swallowed her panic. "Sure," she called back before she could lose her nerve. A few seconds later, Grace slipped inside and gently shut the door behind her. She looked absolutely adorable. Her dress was simple, but beautiful — a grayish-blue flowed around her in gentle folds, the fabric catching the light whenever she moved. The loose sleeves draped elegantly over her shoulders, and the skirt swayed around her ankles like water. It wasn't flashy, but her Jacey could look good in a potato sack. Her blonde hair, usually tied back, fell freely around her shoulders tonight. Nestled among the strands was the silver sparrow hair clip Leona had given her. Yeah. That didn't help Leona's nerves at all. She might actually explode on the spot. Or throw herself out the window. Whichever came first. Before she could do either, Grace's face lit up with a radiant smile. Color rushed into her cheeks — actually, her entire face was turning tomato red. She hurried toward Leona. "Well — wow." Her voice came out breathless. "Hi."
