Realised it's been a while since I mentioned my housing issues.
Landlord took me to court on May 26th. He agreed not to pursue me for the rent arrears provided I left the property on June 16th. To which I agreed, since I've been wanting to get the hell outta Dodge for a year! Except the fucking court didn't send the paperwork through in a timely fashion, despite me chasing them multiple times - they kept saying that it 'should have been sent'. Yes, I KNOW THAT! Thing is, though, it hasn't! It finally arrived on June 12th!
I sent it straight to the council, but they didn't exactly rush to do anything about it. So I am STILL in this fucking house! But the landlord has since obtained a bailiffs warrant, which means that if I am not out by 1pm on July 20th, the bailiffs can *forcibly* eject me and my stuff.
The council have informed me that they'll likely put me into temporary accommodation on July 19th. Talk about leaving it until the last fucking minute!
I am beyond stressed. I am now having nightmares about my asshole landlord and leaving this place twice during my sleep cycle, which is doing my head in badly. Additionally, my PTSD therapy has ended - it runs for 14 weeks. I've been told I can ask to have another 14 week course, but I have to wait 3-4 months before I can make that request. FFS!
And, of course, I have to find the money for moving and probably for storing the majority of my stuff (since I might end up in a hotel/B&B - which is the least helpful temporary housing option *ever* since I'm a lactose-intolerant, diabetic Pescatarian - try eating out with *those* dietary restrictions! Not to mention I cannot *afford* takeaways!) I've told the council this, but I don't get the impression they really care all that much.
*brb screaming*
This drab play about a historic royal visit makes The Crown look nuanced
Springwood squanders a rich political moment and the talents of Robert Lindsay and Jemma Redgrave in a drama better suited to radio
June 1939; war looms on the horizon. At President Roosevelt’s invitation, George VI and Queen Elizabeth make a historic state visit to the US. Congress upholds a policy of neutrality; FDR, alarmed by the situation in Europe, shares the Royals’ need to engage a sceptical American public. Rich material for dramatists − yet, in Springwood, Richard Nelson delivers a peculiarly listless affair that squanders the talents of a cast led by Robert Lindsay and Jemma Redgrave.
Springwood is the name of the Roosevelt family estate on the Hudson, in New York State, where the parties convened for informal exchanges after receptions in Washington. This is Nelson’s third go at the story – there was a 2009 BBC Radio 3 play (Hyde Park-on-Hudson), then a poorly received 2012 film of the same name, directed by Roger Michell. This version, for Hampstead Theatre, is so conversational – Nelson wants us to eavesdrop on his characters – that it still feels far better suited to radio.
The downbeat, “un-theatrical” approach has its moments in the gently comic opening scenes in which Jemma Redgrave’s Eleanor Roosevelt paints a picture of the visit so far – including the rosewood toilet-seat acquired for the guests by FDR’s mother, whose house this is and who has pronounced against the consumption of cocktails. Redgrave plays the First Lady as rather dreamy and aloof. Sedentary on account of his polio, Lindsay’s FDR is lost in thought, almost blending in with the furniture.
Before the big arrival, Eleanor betrays some disdain about the medieval nature of the monarchy. That whiff of prejudice is picked up by Rebecca Night’s Elizabeth, first seen with “Bertie” in a guest-bedroom prior to dinner, fretting that at an impending picnic, they’ll be required to consume hot dogs: “Are they trying to make fun of us?” The answer to that is obviously “no”, no matter how often she re-airs it.
Even The Crown on a bad day musters more ambiguity, history and detailed personality. Andrew Havill, looking 20 years too old to play George VI, stutters like billy-o. After much strained polite conversation between the two sides, the transatlantic divide narrows: the King opens up about his emotionally remote father; FDR, whose complicated love-life we glimpse, is all avuncular ears. It drifts towards an off-stage denouement involving that hot dog, which seemingly won hearts and minds (if not the war). Nelson himself directs the play (after Stanley Tucci withdrew owing to a scheduling conflict) on a punishingly gloomy, drab set. What a waste.
Until Jul 25. Tickets: hampsteadtheatre.com
-- Dominic Cavendish's not pulling any punches, I see! Although it's nice that he mentions Jemma's comic talents which have been largely overlooked in recent years.

The beloved actress starred in classic British sitcoms The Good Life and To The Manor Born.
The Good Life actress Dame Penelope Keith dies aged 86
Actress Dame Penelope Keith, best known for her roles in the classic 1970s British sitcoms The Good Life and To the Manor Born, has died at the age of 86.
A statement released on Monday on behalf of her family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Dame Penelope Keith died peacefully whilst living with cancer at her home in Surrey where she had lived for more than 50 years.
"The family is grateful for the care and support she received throughout her treatments, and ask that their privacy be respected at this time."
She famously played snobbish suburban neighbour Margo Leadbetter in The Good Life, as well as the widowed aristocrat Audrey fforbes-Hamilton in To the Manor Born.
'RIP dear Penny'
The Surrey-born actress joined the Royal Shakespeare company in 1963 and went on to win an Olivier Award for best comedy performance in 1976, for her role in the play Donkey's Years.
But she became a household name playing Margo in The Good Life from 1975, winning the Bafta TV award for best light entertainment performance in 1977.
She followed that by playing widowed aristocrat Audrey fforbes-Hamilton in To the Manor Born, which first aired in 1979.
She won another Bafta TV award soon after, this time for best actress for The Norman Conquests and Saving It For Albie.
Her other sitcom credits in the 1980s and 90s included Executive Stress, No Job for a Lady and Next of Kin.
The much-loved actress succeeded Laurence Olivier as president of the Actors' Benevolent Fund after his death in 1989.
This century, working largely in theatre, she played Madame Arcati in a 2004 production of Blithe Spirit and Lady Bracknell in a 2007 version of The Importance of Being Earnest.
She was a made a dame in 2014 for services to the arts and charity.
Former culture secretary Sir Jeremy Hunt led the tributes, posting on X: "Incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Dame Penelope Keith CBE. She was a neighbour and friend where she was dearly loved by all who knew her in Milford.
"She helped Britain laugh at itself, one of our best national qualities, and brought happiness to millions. RIP dear Penny."

These pescatarian birds are directly exposed to PFAS contamination due to the island's position near the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Over fifty years of data show a peak in PFAS (also known as "forever chemicals") content in seabird eggs in the 90s, followed by a decrease as regulations went into effect. The most recent findings show a 70% decrease of most common PFAS.
While continued vigilance a regulation is needed, this data indicates that regulations are working to reduce PFAS concentrations in marine ecosystems.
Yes!!!! I did a review of literature on PFASs in human drinking water about half a year ago, and there is a lot of really good progress! Please celebrate this, please don't let this solution be forgotten (at least so quickly) as the ozone layer or acid rain.
We are making genuine progress! Producers are dramatically altering how much they use PFAS and how much gets released in effluent, but also there's a lot better understanding of how to remove PFAS from the environment!
Environmental problems CAN BE SOLVED.
The Supreme Court of Nepal ruled in favour of same-sex marriage on 18 June 2026, requiring the government to ensure marriage equality.
As reported by Pahichan Media, human rights activist and former politician Sunil Babu Pant welcomed the ruling. “This landmark ruling marks a historic milestone for equality, dignity, and human rights in Nepal, while providing crucial legal clarity and protection for the rights of same-sex couples,” he said. “The verdict reaffirms the constitutional principles established in Sunil Babu Pant vs Nepal Govt, and strengthened through later cases, including Maya Surendra’s first-ever legal registration of non-traditional heterosexual marriage in Nepal,” Pant continued.

Ok maybe this is not as universal as I thought it might be...
Are you familiar with how electricity feels coursing through your flesh
Not at all
Best i got is familiarity with static shock
Yeah girl, of course everyone accidentally electrocutes themselves sometimes
Bald
HEY THATS REALLY CONCERNING AND NOW HOW STATIC ELECTRICITY WORKS THAT IS ACTUALLY SUPER NOT GOOD
(It comes from the towel roller that charges me up when I take a paper towel from it and then it gets discharged when I touch the next conductive surface, ie the faucet.)
Ok. Weird. but! if the faucet is the grounding part then good. It Sounded more like live wires touching the pipes but now i understand.
Anyway now despite knowing how to handle and avoid the shock I have a fear response whenever I have to touch the faucet
Has everyone not mildly electrocuted themselves by plugging something in wrong before?
not everyone forgets to change the bulb in their lamp fully and tap at the bulb confused why it wont turn on while focused on their book and shock themselves when theyre 12?
So not everyone has rewired an industrial solenoid setup hot cuz you didn't wanna walk 10 yards to hit the disconnect? 210 is fun. I think it was 210. Hit like someone pushed me at every part of my body on a cellular level really really hard about 1 inch to the left.
My dumbass just sat at an arcade machine 2 minutes after getting out of the pool when I was 10, y'all are being complicated about it lol
My family moved into a new house when I was a teenager. My dad had me go around and screw in all the new light sockets.
Thankfully it wasn't a bad shock but got a whole body zap before I broke contact with what was DEFINITELY NOT A SCREW.
Three year old me decided to stick their finger in the electric socket in our flat and I definitely got shocked.
Also, I have too much static electricity in my body and routinely shock myself or others (I gave someone some cash once and gave her a static shock and she yelped SO loud!). In my early twenties I had to wear anti-static wristbands otherwise I caused the 90s PC to fucking crash. It was a whole thing - the IT dept were unimpressed with me!

[ALT Text - Tweet from Boze Herrington, Library Owl reads: Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can't do things we've been doing for 5,000 years.]
if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
