Something the narrative of deltarune has built up in was both subtle and unsubtle is that Kris is not exactly happy to have the soul. They remove us from their body when they dont want us stopping them, and they actively hide information from us that would cause the player to act upon it (like shelter codes and Asriels search history), but why exactly does kris have such an adversarial relationship with the soul? The core of this question is that theres 4 possible realities for kris and the soul:

Kris 1: Kris is Kris.

2: The Vessel we made is Kris. Same as the first option, Kris has never not been in their own body, regardless of where that body came from.

3a: At some point in time, the vessel we made replaced Kris and was implanted with their memories and knows this happened; ie, the kris we control is not the same kris adopted by the dreemurrs.

3b: same as above but they do not know theyre not the original kris

Soul 1a/1b: we are Kris's soul and Kris knows/doesnt know this

Soul 2a/2b: we are the vessel's soul and Kris knows/doesnt know this

So in total for the narrative theres 16 hypothetical Krisoids, possibly 9 (or less) depending on what you define as a valid reason for a crashout. This thought comes out of a scene in chapter 5 where asgore is remembering the events of chapter 0 and kris is represented by a blue outline in asgores memory, shown here:

Pre-Chapter 0: This is the period of memories that Noelle holds fond nostalgia for, where Kris is an insufferable gremlin.

Chapter 0: This is the event which separated Kris from their original, Cyan soul. During or immediately after this event, while still in the original Dark World, the Red Soul was given to them which allows them to keep living. My reasoning for Kris receiving the Red soul in the dark world is that they are only able to remove it while in the Light World, an affliction which bears some metaphysical similarities to Berdly's unresponsive limb/comatose state. Fountain sealing, from this perspective, is more of a reflexive projection of the soul rather than it actually leaving Kris's body, in a similar fashion as Spamton Neo's heart being on a chain. Whether Red was particularly malignant to Kris or not is irrelevant in the grand scope of the games narrative, the important aspect is providing an explanation for why Kris is so antagonistic to Red regardless of the route that the Player is making Kris pursue—that Red is a foreign body controlling what they do.

Post-Chapter 0 through Pre-Chapter 1: Kris's behavioral changes occur, Red Soul is thrown into the birdcage enough to cause a bloodstain ont he carpet. The Gonermaker Sequence occurs outside of nominal reality with the player soul, which I will refer to as Arty for reasons later on, and was intercepted by a third-party which for the sake of brevity I will refer to as The Angel. From here, this reading diverges along three main paths. The first path, which requires the least assumptions, is that Arty and Red are the same soul, and The Angel wiped the souls memories before reinserting it within Kris. The second path, is that Kris had rid themselves of Red at some point (perhaps by flushing), and The Angel stepped in to replace the lost soul with Arty. The third path is that The Angel merged(or replaced) the Vessel with Kris, and Red with Arty. The rationale for this is, of course the prophecy. The prophecy requires a human cage and soul, and the exact shape or nature of the cage or soul is irrelevant as long as it exists. Kris could be as much of an amnesiac as Arty is, and the prophecy would still be fulfilled in time. The Vessel could be aggressive and uncaring, Red could be compassionate and loving, but their existence means the prophecy can move forward.
