Dream A Little Dream Of Us 1/?
Summary: Ryland is on Erid. Colt is on Earth. The two had long since given up hope of ever seeing each other again.

So, this isn't g/t or anything but coltland twins have completely taken over my brain and I just had to write it. I'm expecting to have a few chapters of this but it'll remain kind of short I think. Anyway, I'm still working on gtjuly but I hope you guys enjoy this until then!

Colt found himself looking out toward the sea, sand beneath his feet, fog in the air, thinking about nothing and everything all at once. It was peaceful here, calm. Colt had always loved the beach, he took Jody more times than he could count at this point and, back when he was a kid, it was both his and Ryland’s favorite place to go.
Ryland.
Right.
Colt felt the mood of the beach shift slightly as his thoughts landed on his brother. It was always bittersweet, thinking about him. Thinking about how he was doing up in space, wondering if he was even still…alive. Colt didn’t know, no one did, but some small part of Colt told him that Ryland was still out there. He had to be.
As Colt thought more about his brother, he started noticing things just a bit…off, about this beach. The ocean didn’t seem to go very far, the sand beneath his feet was too coarse, and there was some sort of weird reflection up in the sky past the fog.
And, quite suddenly, Colt realized he couldn’t remember coming to this beach in the first place.
Just realized that the reason I love making friends on tumblr is because it’s exactly how you make friends on the playground as a six year old. No, I don’t know their name but they love mermaids too and built this awesome sand castle. No, I don’t know their age but their imaginary cheetah is friends with mine. You like this show? You like this character?? You can sing the theme song really loud??? Here is a flower crown. Here is a juice box. You can share my time and I might never see you again but part of you stays in my soul forever. In my mind we’re still on the swing set and the sky is blue and nothing will ever be wrong again.

I read a tumblr post that said Tom Ryder wouldn't hold Grace's hand in a park, he'd show up high af at two AM at Grace's apartment, and I agree so much with that that I'm actually sad there's not enough fanfiction that keep them in character (to be clear, I still enjoy most of them. I've fallen for this crackship, I'm afraid. A small part of me has never gotten over the "Bad boy x Sweet girl" dynamic that I adored in high school lol)
That's also a reason why I think Grace and Ryder ABSOLUTELY wouldn't work long term.
Grace would get tired of Ryder constantly being high, constantly partying, constantly causing scandals, constantly using his relationship with Grace as some kind of a PR stunt, constantly treating everyone else as less than.
Ryder would get tired of Grace always being so uptight, refusing to go to most events, always taking his boring teacher job so seriously, always seriously choosing to grade tests instead of sleeping with him, and, ugh, valuing his family so much, AKA Colt Seavers.
They would enjoy some things together, Grace would even occasionally get high with Ryder, just not ALL the time, and Ryder would every now and again make an effort and listen to Grace's teacher stories, but ultimately, they'd get tired of each other. I 100% think Ryder would end up cheating on Grace, Grace would, to his own surprise, not even be that mad because "Let's be honest, Tom, this relationship isn't going anywhere. It's a joke at this point. We should have ended it way sooner."
And Ryder would be ?????? so fucking mad ?????? Like what?? What do you mean, YOU think the relationship was a joke??? I'M the one who gets to think that, YOU'RE the nerd, I'M a fucking hollywood star!! Why aren't you jealous at all??? Why aren't you mad???? I'm Tom fucking Ryder, bitch!!! How dare you not be absolutely devastated and heartbroken over me????
Grace would do the adult thing and just kind of nonchalantly shrug like "Sorry man, relationships aren't always meant to last I guess. I wish you all the best though" and go back to his old life, accepting that his relationship with Ryder was a fun fling, but not more than that, meanwhile Ryder would pine SO much, Grace would be his "one that got away", he'd stalk all his social media and mope around trying to cope with it, all his "friends" would get tired of him because whenever they meet, Ryder's like "*sigh* Ry and I used to go to this restaurant. Be honest, did I blow it?"
Which is funny because he only started this relationship for two reasons in the first place:
-To piss off Colt (it was working. Ever since the break up Colt is insufferable though)
and
-Because he's so in love with himself that he finds the thought of sleeping with some normie nerd incredibly exciting; obviously the nerd wouldn't be able to believe his luck that a celebrity like Tom Ryder is giving him attention, his little science brain CANNOT comprehend that, right? Right?? What do you mean HE'S the one who ends the relationship??? Is he even allowed to do that?
Ryder tries to win Grace back with the whole "I've changed, you're everything to me, I'll do anything to prove it"-thing and Grace would be like "Dude, how tf did you get in here, we're literally on a suicide mission in SPACE".
