I found myself seeing this exchange go down the exact same way.
Jax is quite literally trying to befriend Pomni to use her for his own end.
He might be upset about Ribbit because he didn't get what he wanted with him. Perhaps his actions led Ribbit to abstract.
Considering Jax is a terrible person. It is confirmed by Gooseworx, who also made it clear he's the most objectively detestable person, the one who is " most deserving to be in the circus" out of the whole crew.
"Only the strongest of Jax fans will survive." Goose is trying to tell us that we, the audience, are going to see Jax do some pretty awful stuff, and all of what we've seen so far is just precursors for what is to come.
Zooble was trying to warn Pomni not to befriend Jax, to "ignore him." Kinger warned Pomni of people like Jax, heartless individuals who "make someone feel alone or not wanted. Ragatha offers through her actions a more cooperative and peaceful alternative to Jax's nihilistic brutality by helping Pomni make it through the adventures, one at a time, always remaining optimistic and encouraging Pomni to do better. Then you have Gangle who offers Pomni the gift of skepticism and vulnerability, showing through her actions, questioning the actions of others, and passively handle the experience of the circus by directly participating in the circus and even troubleshooting with Caine by how she encouraged Caine to include punishment for fiaking the adventure to motivate Jax to do his work.
Jax likely because he has tried connimg everyone in the circus to the point that they're partially numb to it (save for kinger, unless he's faking his condition of amnesia and memory lapses in the circus). It's likely Jax did the same thing to Ragatha, and Ragatha is likely trying to befriend Pomni to ensure Jax doesn't further manipulate Pomni.
This theory holds some water and would explain the behavior of all of the circus, who have all kind of developed a level of tolerance for the abuse Jax gives out to everyone. Pomni's new and likely doesn't understand this still, likely being decieved with charm into thinking Jax is he most honest of the crew because of how blunt and forward he is treating everyone like garbage.
A lot of Jax apologists like to use this part of Jax's character to justify his actions, but it's very clear Jax is a sociopath who undermines the well being of everyone around him. He's done some horrible heinous things to each of the crew on screen, showing us what he's capable of, and how he revels in the pain and misery of others, as if it gives him a leg up, when clearly Jax is suffering just as much, and likely more with how he lashes out to hurt others, covering it as a prank or quip or wisecrack.
He openly decieves others and appears unstoppable, and least likely to abstract.
Which is why I have a hunch he might abstract, because nobody's expecting him to abstract. It's either him or Zooble, because nobody's expecting Zooble either because of Goose's message of Zooble appearing in future episodes.
But Goose didn't say HOW.
It could be all flashbacks, recalling, reflections of other crew members on Zooble, regretting they didn't do more.
Lots of theories, so much anticipation.
