30 Days of Autism Acceptance 2020
Rules: Answer the prompt of the day on your own separate post. You can answer as many or as few of these as you like. Answer with as much or as little detail as you wish. And make sure to tag it as #30daysofautismacceptance and #2020. Please help me spread this before the start of April!
April 1: Introduce yourself. Talk about who you are as a person.
April 2: Post your red instead selfie today! Alternatively, you could talk about why you choose to go redinstead and what it means to you.
April 3: Talk about special interests. Do you have any? What are they? How long have you had them? What does it feel like to have special interests? What does having special interests mean to you? Talk about your past special interests

April 5: Talk about your living situation. Do you live with your parents? Do you live on your own? Have roommates? Etc. If you live on your own how hard was it to get used to?

After seeing the display that was the straight pride parade, I am making something explicitly clear: I support people in the LGBT+ community, they are valid! Transgendered people (wether they transition or not) and the gender that they choose to associate with are valid! Asexuals are valid! Disabled people are valid! People of color are valid! Everyone is valid as long as you’re not bringing harm to anyone!
What is not valid is being straight up mean towards the people listed previously because you “disagree” with them for existing. That is the point where the “difference of opinion” is no longer a difference of opinion. It’s where the “difference of opinion” becomes a motion of bigotry and nastiness.
Screw the “Make Normalcy Normal Again” ideology! Continue being yourselves, because you are all valid!
Parents: “Treat others as you’d like to be treated.”
Me: *Does that by not misgendering people, by not referring to people by slurs, and by actually treating people how I would like to be treated.*
Also Parents: “Stop being so politically correct!"
Do you know if any other autistic people sometimes talk in a babyish voice or like making squeaking sounds?
This would count as a vocal stim, so I’m not sure how many other autistic people do it, but it’s definitely an autism thing
Wait!? Squeaking is an autism thing!? I do that when I am exceedingly excited.

Neurotypicals: *Drops hints about what they want instead of explicitly stating what they want.* Me: *Attempts this communication style to try to conform.* Neurotypicals: “We can’t read your damn mind! Tell us exactly what you need, or don’t speak at all!” *Continues speaking in vague statements and hints instead of telling us what exactly they need, despite seeing the flaw of this communication style when an autistic person uses it.*
If you live in the United States, don’t expect people to be as enthusiastic about the fireworks surrounding Forth of July as you are. It’s loud and it can really mess with people whom suffer with PTSD or people whom are autistic. Not to mention, pets don’t really like the sound either.

I have a question to ask to you and to other autistic people but, how do you feel when someones criticizes your art?
It can hurt, but as I’m trying to become an animator, I understand criticism is necessary to better myself
For me, I’m fine with them telling me what I can do to improve, but if they say “it sucks” without them clarifying why, I just block them. It’s infuriating when they criticize art without giving feedback.
Expecting people to respect your Autism traits is NOT rude 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If you are a neurotypical, straight, cisgendered or white person, and you refer to other people in your own group as “normal,” please don’t interact with me or my blogs. That language is how people justified being nasty towards other human beings in the past.

Do you guys have that song that is your ‘stimming song?’ You hear it and it is pure bliss, and you stim to it?
Mine is “The Tempest” by Pendulum (The last two minutes, specifically.) I pretend to play the drums to the song.

I call the stim I do “hand dancing” and my hands just move how the music feels
If you’re disabled:
Parents/caregivers saying things like “I wasted so much money on you” and “it takes so much money/effort to take care of you” and “be grateful I’m willing to give this much for you” are wrong.
Yes, it’s expensive (whether financially or physically or emotionally or what have you) to take care of a disabled person, but that is their responsibility. If they’re your parents, they signed up for the job as soon as they had a kid.
Disability is not under your control. It’s not your fault that it’s expensive.
No one should use that to guilt you or control you. If they do then they are wrong, and they are cruel.
Edit: this post has gotten popular, so I want to add: if your parents do this to you on a regular basis, that is parental abuse, whether you are disabled or not. Parents should never intentionally make their child feel guilty for needing help to survive.
Also, this isn’t just for kids. I am currently struggling with this as a disabled adult who is dependent on their parents because of abuse. Adults, especially disabled adults, are just as easily abused by parents as minors are. It all depends on the circumstances.
