RSD be like âOh...You havenât replied to me in a few hours? You donât want to talk to me?? You donât like me???â and then thereâs a crushing weight in your chest and everything is bad.
thank you for your reply on my post, it was really validating. i tried talking about it to some friends but they're not autistic and they really didn't understand how deep the feeling of a special interest goes for me. just knowing that other people feel this way after losing one helps me feel a little better. i'll revisit some old haunts and keep my eye out for new stuff. I appreciate your help
Youâre welcome! Iâm glad that it helped in some way :) Itâs always nice to know youâre not alone!
As for the url thing...thatâs a mood. You really lucked out on that lol. Iâm so tempted to make a MDZS/Untamed blog, but the naming is such a struggle.

10. What are your favorite YouTube channels? Why do you like them?
- JennaMarbles :) She just has so much fun doing wacky things, and she inspires me to try new things.
- Buzzfeed Unsolved, because their chaotic energy is very entertaining. Also spooky
11. What is the weirdest YouTube video youâve ever watched?
- My friend regularly sends me videos that Jack Stauber does, and theyâre all The Most Disturbing Things I have ever seen.
https://www.youtube.com/user/JackStauber
17. Do you listen to podcasts? What kind of podcasts do you listen to?
- I do listen to podcasts :) I mainly like fictional and D&D podcasts such as Welcome to Night Vale and The Adventure Zone. Iâve also heard that Critical Role and The Magnus Archives are good, but I havenât listened to them. Also, anything the McElroy brothers do is up my alley.
thank you so much! i sent it through your submissions box :)
I replied :) I hope I helped at least a little. Hopefully some others in the community will also lend their experience as well.
having trouble and need some help from other autistics
i was talking to a friend and i told herÂ
âi feel my special interest fadingâÂ
my special interest has been kpop/korean culture/language and itâs been that for about 6 years. itâs been the thing i think about, interact with, love, and study every day. For six years.Â
now that interest is changing, fading away, and i donât have anything to fall back on besides The Untamed, but it doesnât live up to Special Interest Expectations (if that makes any senseâŚlike I used to love it a lot and i still like it but I donât interact with it as much anymore)Â
I told my friend I felt anxious and restless about losing my special interest, and she said âDo you need one?âÂ
And I guess I never really thought about how allistics donât really think of special interests as anything more thanâŚjust an interest.Â
I have to have a special interest. If i donât have something to interact with every day and study and gather information about and love and cherish, something that brings me unbridled joyâŚI feel like Iâm nothing. Iâm depressed, and restless, and feel like a shell of myself.Â
and losing a special interest of this magnitude? it hurts. Itâs not a one and done, you wake up and youâre suddenly not interested anymore, at least not for me. it takes days, sometimes weeks, of going away and back to it and finally leaving it alone and feeling terrible for it.Â
anyway.Â
what do you do when youâve lost a special interest? how do you feel? do you tend to pick up a new interest quickly or does it take a while? I would like some opinions.Â
This is definitely a struggle, and Iâm sorry youâre facing that :( Just because itâs fading and you may switch your focus to something else doesnât mean that itâs less important! It sounds like as a special interest this has had a pretty big impact on your life. Youâre not going to suddenly forget about it, and youâll still have those memories to look back on.
For me personally, when I lose a special interest, I never really lose it. I make sure to add it to my list of special interests that Iâve had throughout my life so that if Iâm ever dealing with being special-interest-less, I can look back on that and possibly get back into it. And I have gotten back into past special interests several times.
When I just lose a special interest though, I definitely feel bereft and lost. It scares me when I feel my interest fading, because I donât like feeling that way. So your fears are totally understandable and normal. If youâre really upset and scared about losing your current special interest, maybe find a way to ârefreshâ it or put a new spin on it. If thereâs something to it that you havenât explored yet, try that. For example, reading or writing fanfiction, writing or translating something in Korean, watching Korean youtubers, etc.
Also, the speed at which we get into new things is different for everyone, but I tend to get into new things pretty quickly. Itâs all about being willing to try new things. This is the time for finally checking out those shows/books/youtubers/recipes that people have been recommending. Just in general trying to keep yourself busy and engaged in something usually will help.
Good luck! I know changes are hard, but youâll get through it!

happy autism acceptance month!Â
A show will have an obviously autistic coded character and then in interviews the creators will go âhmmm...never thought about it...maybe theyâre on the spectrum....we wonât say they are for sure....â and Iâm TIRED of it

Routines: An Autistic Perspective
My routines are long. Theyâre tedious. Sometimes I donât even necessarily enjoy them.
âThen why do you do them?â
Because firstly, they help me stay on track. They make sure that I take care of myself. Routines also ground me and make me feel secure.
Without routines, itâs easy for autistic folks to forget about things like eating, going to the bathroom, homework, etc. However, if I tell myself, âOkay, Iâm going to eat lunch at noon every day,â then that helps me avoid forgetting about meals. My daily and weekly routines are important tools that help me function.
They are safety nets in a lot of ways as well. For some of us, the subconscious thought process is âWell even if everything else is chaotic, at least I have my routines.â When things change, I like to adhere to my routines as much as possible, because they bring me comfort. For example, when I travel, I like to make sure I have all of the necessities to go through my (long) nightly routine. I just donât feel the same without it, and it bothers me.
For some autistic folks, the changes of being in quarantine/lockdown or not having access to certain things are very distressing. Please be patient with us. We are all having to adapt.
Some cis people really will be like âOh I just CANT use the right name/pronouns because Iâve known them for so long as [deadname]!â and then misgender a trans person theyâve just met who is open about their gender & pronouns. Like, obviously time isnât the issue here. Make an effort.
