hi! i left hellenic polytheism a while ago and then recently came back. however, i’m really scared the gods will be mad at me and i don’t know where/how to restart. any advice?
hiii! well, i don't see any reason why the gods could possibly be angry. if you approach them respectfully, they will understand! the gods are perfect and understanding; they always understand. don't be afraid! i know we may feel guilty for having distanced ourselves from the gods during some times, but the gods know that there are difficult times for us humans, and that if you have never completely disrespected them, there is no reason to worry! start again slowly, and everything will be alright! 🩷

What does it mean to be drawn to a certain god’s picture? How would you interpret this? Is that the god calling me to them?
Well, that's a complicated question... because it can have several answers, it depends a lot on the circumstances. Normally, I don't interpret it as a "calling", most of the time it's just your energy connecting with the energy and representation of some god! Look, I myself have always felt "connected" to Aphrodite, even before I started my worship, but I see it as simply a familiarity of energies, because the gods don't usually "call" us, they don't need to call us to worship them, at least that's what I've learned during my years of study!
I think the best answer to your situation would come from some kind of oracle, tbh 🤔
Any tips on how I can start working with Hypnos?
I think the best way is to start by studying him, his symbolism in myths, researching the worship of Lord Hypnos and what devotees do for him. For example, research the hymns and the offerings! Knowing his symbolism in the myths is important to understand the offerings and what he likes. 🙂↕️
I honestly don't know much about the worship of Hypnos because I'm not a "complete" devotee of his... I honor him as I honor all the gods, but I don't have a close relationship with him, as my worship is focused on Aphrodite and Hera! Therefore, if any devotee of Hypnos wants to give the anon some advice, I would be grateful!

Hii, I’m not new to helpol, but I have a question. when people do things in devotion to a god, what does it mean? Like, how do you declare the action as a means of devotion, and what does it mean to do so? At least to you. Would the gods even want our energy, if that makes sense? lol I hope it’s not a dumb question, it’s just not something spoken about in detail often and I currently can’t find much about it in antiquity (Tho tbf I need to read more, iv been pretty lax and basic with my practice and education 💔) even tho iv heard devotional acts existed in Ancient Greece, just a bit differently to what we consider devotional acts now and what they signify ( but that person didn’t go into detail either💔)

well, i'll answer you with my perspective on this, but if anyone wants to add something, feel free! maybe we can have an interesting exchange!
for me, this is a way of showing the gods that we think of them and honor them, even in everyday things. normally, i light a candle, pray, and state my intention, but you can just state it aloud or in whatever way you feel most connected to. honestly, historical information about similar practices is rare, but the method i described is quite common today, and it's something that really helps me build and maintain Kharis with the gods.
i think it's not about offering our energy, but rather demonstrating our love for the gods, honoring them by showing that we are fulfilling our daily duties. for example, if i'm studying for a test and dedicating my study hours to Athena, i'm honoring her and showing that i'm fulfilling a certain role in society through studying, you understand?
i hope i managed to express myself well! i apologize for anything; english is not my native language, so i may make some mistakes in communication. anything, i'm open to questions and comments, and may the gods bless you all! 🙂↕️💞

what i enjoy doing most are simple things, because i can do them more often! sitting in front of my altar, singing hymns, conversing, meditating, etc. i also like to dedicate some things in my day-to-day life to specific activities, like music, study time, and so on.
don't be discouraged by feeling this way, anon! it's normal! evolution in hellenic polytheism is slow. focus on creating and strengthening Kharis with the gods, and that will be another step forward. 💞

Respect is earned, not demanded.
The gods are not a court of crowned heads to be bowed to in order. Not everyone wants to climb the steps and curtsy. Some of us never walked through Olympus’ front gate. We were led through the back, past the vineyards, into the woods, into hands that remembered us.
I say this with reverence, not rebellion:
Not all gods wear gold. Not all power sits on thrones.
Some of us were born of wild places and whispering pines, not marble halls.
Some of us were chosen without ceremony.
Some of us choose each other without permission.
You don’t need Zeus to reach the divine.
You don’t need Hera to be heard.
There are gods in the field.
Gods in the firelight.
Gods in the part of you that refuses to be told who to kneel to.
And they’ll love you just fine, without a crown’s permission.
If the King and Queen demand your loyalty before your voice, ask yourself what kind of gods they really are.
I think some people here don't understand that respect ≠ complete submission.
You don't need to kneel to respect, you don't need to forget your own self to be a slave to the divine. To respect is to act with humility before the divine being who listens to you and helps you. If even the gods, in their divine perfection, respect Zeus and Hera, who are we, mere mortals, to disrespect them?
The purpose of my post was to warn the new Hellenic polytheists who want to get closer to the gods without moving away from the wrong view they have of Zeus and Hera through myths. Nothing more. It doesn't say about submission, just respect for the gods, which is one of the pillars of the Hellenic religion. Understanding this is the basics of calling yourself a Hellenic polytheist!

No, it’s not. Gatekeeping is the hallmark of insecure spiritual authority, and you are not the arbiter of anyone else’s path. Yikes.
You don’t get to decide who’s “real” based on whether they kneel before Zeus like he’s manning a toll booth.
People are allowed to be wary. Especially of those who demand obedience under the guise of respect.
Calling them "mere mortals" for listening to their instincts doesn’t make you enlightened, it makes you condescending. Listening to what resonates is incredibly sacred in spirituality, and not something to be corrected. That isn’t anyone's place.
Spiritual experience is not a hierarchy, and speaking with certainty doesn’t make you wise. It just makes you loud.
I'm sorry, but I think at this point you are interpreting my words in the wrong way. What I said earlier is not gatekeeping, it is a reference to one of the pillars of Hellenic polytheism, Eusebia.
I understand that you may have different views if you are not a Hellenic polytheist, and therefore do not agree with what I say... but I repeat, what I say here is totally focused on Hellenic polytheism, its pillars, philosophy and historical basis.
