btw the US federal rule that will funding-denial-style effectively ban most trans healthcare and mandate funding recipients to discriminate against trans ppl will go into effect by October 1st, 2026
if this gets tied to medicare reimbursement, it will effectively mark the end of trans healthcare in the united states (hospitals and hospital groups will always pick medicare funding over any annoying or inconvenient policy/law). i can’t tell by the article whether or not it will be related to CMS/medicare reimbursement, though.
it is ALL federal funding. that includes medicare and medicaid. also like tbc it is not really bc hospitals and clinics are just cowardly or something (which is generally true); many of them existentially depend on federal funding and effectively have no choice but to implement these kinds of policies. this is why transphobic politicians have been laser focused on these kinds of policies, since they are both easier to pass and implement than legal bans and allow for extreme and collective extrajudicial punishment for violation

Just to be extra clear here: Thats no reason not to fucking try. Worst case you justify future action, best case they realize the pressure against this is immense and water it down temporarily. Many such rules have been stopped by coordinated action. I get thag its easy to give into despair, but please stop being a defeatist, its extremely harmful to any movement.

Is it defeatist to speak the truth? Giving an honest and clear eyed assessment of our current predicament is not the same as giving in to despair. This government doesn’t give a single fuck about what we say, it only cares about what we do. If the sum total of our resistance is to send strongly worded letters, nothing will change. Going off of the rapid nature of decline in the US political condition, those in power are signaling that they don’t feel threatened by us at all. Sure, it’s worth spreading this info so everyone can stay up to date on exactly how fucked the situation currently is, but anything else short of working towards a vanguard party is a complete waste of time. Get organized, train, and plan for the worst case because that’s probably what’s coming.

Its been truly fascinating to watch in real time as the lie of liberal democracy has been slowly stripped bare by the contrast between the increasing urgency of the moment and the steadfast insistence to stay the course among the ruling classes. I don't think it takes Nostradamus to predict that we're quietly approaching tipping point in relations between the western masses and their governments. My garden is struggling :( A lot of my tomato and pepper starters are stunted and leggy and some bitch ass bugs have been eating the hell out of my bean plants. Ive completely lost three of them and two more are chewed to pieces. I realize now that the investments I made were not enough at the start. I need one of those mini green houses, proper starting pots and trays, more grow lights, raised beds, a folding table, etc. and I straight up cant afford any of that. As with most things I'm interested in doing, I'm priced out of doing it well because I'm a broke boy. On the bright side, my potatoes are killing it. That's one ray of sunshine in all of this. I took a $4 bag of potatoes and I'm going to hopefully multiply it many times over.
That has to be the most humiliating way to describe one of Earth's most terrifyingly effective predators.
