have definitely harped on this before but it really does just drive me absoluely insane when you see a dog breeder talking the big talk of "well i dont breed my dogs FOR DOG SHOWS because i dont BELIEVE in showing, dog shows are just BEAUTY PAGEANTS and mean NOTHING, i breed my dogs for WHAT MATTERS which means HEALTH and TEMPERAMENT and GREAT FAMILY PETS!!" and then you go to look at their dog for more info and it's the most poorly-structured off-type albino lilac double merle dog you've ever seen with zero titles and a single Embark panel as proof of health testing.

it's actually insane that chinese cresteds are called that when they are almost definitely from mexico

specifically the good money on Chinese Crested is that they result from xolos crossed to european-derived long haired little lapdogs in order to create the really dramatique topknots and furnishings, iirc. xolo/maltese crosses, basically.

i think that's a safe bet, especially with how maltese-y the powderpuff variety looks lol

There is something vindictively refreshing when someone asks you should they get this dog (from a bad breeder and/or breed that doesn't fit their lifestyle), you tell them that probably isn't a good idea, they do it anyway, then they have a Bad Time about it. I'm not gonna say I told you so, but I will be smug about it in my head

while im on the subject i really fucking hate the "you should have to take a class before owning this breed because they're sooo hardcore and only the most godlike trainers can safely handle them" bullshit that i see all the time because most of the time the person is talking about like...an amstaff or something.

also even the most "hardcore" working dog is still a fucking dog. it's still going to act like a dog. it's not a tiger or a great white shark. it's a domesticated dog. just do your research before getting it and don't be stupid and you'll be fine. there is not a single breed i know of that requires its owner to have a goddamn PhD, that's insane
