The Road, The Rocks, and The Weeds

"did you drive a truck?" I used to, yeah, but mostly just cars. I drove a Nissan Versa for nearly 10 years. Much like the farmland here.

"but a lot of people have trucks" yes but most are status symbols and have never been used to haul anything. Again much like the farmland here.

"do people ride horses everywhere?" No more than here. We still had roads. I've only ridden a horse 4-5 times, tho I do like them.

"do you have a cowboy hat?" No. Never. Don't care for them.

"a ranch? Like the Bush family? Your family must have money!" Not that type of ranch. A real working ranch. We are not rich. We just raised cattle. The land was not for show or status. Cows lived there.

"oh everyone there is republican arent they?" You have clearly not spoken to many independent farmers/ranchers.

"did you own a lot of guns?" Okay this one is fair. Yes I did. No I don't anymore.

(regarding the guns) "why?" Well they're fun and useful. We shot targets mostly, but would use them to kill hogs.

(again on the gun thing) "why hogs? Isn't that just a joke?" No, hogs cause billions in damages every year throughout the country and will kill pets and even young cattle if you let them.

(yet again, this is always a big topic) "why did you get ride of them?" I moved to Scotland and then here. Guns are not easily transported to different countries. Plus I don't feel the need for them anymore.

"you don't sound like a Texan" you'd be surprised how few people I know have a drawl. It's not that common where I grew up. Occasionally it comes out when I talk tho.

"oooo the wild West like the movies!" If you mean the dry desert, that's more west Texas/New Mexico. Not my area.

"do you miss it?" Sometimes.

"what do you miss most?" Food. Texas barbeque, authentic Mexican food, and Cajun/creole cuisine.

"it doesn't sound much different than here" it's not. Aside from the food.

"what do your parents think of you moving away?" We don't talk anymore.
