A lot of Crap

the clanker thing reminds me of how even beyond ai, people LOVE using the "we need a new slur for X" phrase and defend their right to do it so viciously you'd think using slurs is praxis. last year i posted "I don't think we *need* any new slurs actually" on threads and people were MADDDD. it was all "ai users aren't a marginalized group so it's fine" and "shaming bad people with a slur is good to get them to act different" and "it's not that serious" and so on and so forth. and they were firm and stubborn and SO serious about it. and then they'd make their little posts with new slur suggestions (for bad people!) and like all the replies adding onto the joke with direct references to antiblackness. i felt insane. so many marginalized groups that get called slurs yet all your jokes about your "new slur for people who Really Deserve It" just so happen to reference slavery, cotton picking, segregation, interracial marriage, etc etc??? come on now.

As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".
