[Now that I have read a bit of the Wikipedia article for punch I have learned of Arrack.]

The backdrop is thick with historical friction. As a bastion for revisionist history, Yasukuni remains a lightning rod for controversy, enshrining Class-A war criminals alongside over 27,800 Taiwanese who died as Imperial subjects. Standing before the monument of Omura Masujiro, the monk’s placard—calling for "freedom and peace" between the youth of both nations—presents a haunting paradox: a plea for a shared future voiced from the very grounds that commemorate a colonial past. In this grainy 1984 frame, the monk stands as a flickering reminder of the complex, often painful, ties that continue to bind Taiwan and Japan long after the ink on their treaties has dried.
