Fear can, in fact, cause meat to be tougher and sharper in flavor due to its associated biological responses. Why do I bring this up? Because arousal would do the opposite. “Arousal” is influenced by hormones like oxytocin and dopamine, and happiness or satisfaction is influenced by hormones like serotonin. These can both result in muscle relaxation and the dilation of blood vessels which also causes blushing. If one’s victim is murdered while in a state of arousal instead of fear— even if they are aware of this yet agree to it and are aroused by it, there will still be instinctual, survival-based fear and resistance on some level, so ignorant surprise is best— the cuts taken from the body would presumably be more tender and potentially have a richer, more well-rounded flavor if cooked properly. At least if you have Hannibal’s palette and are magically able to detect and identify the taste of residual traces of hormones in your dinner, which people really biologically aren’t on any level beyond minimal texture differences and stuff……..
