Fish mom

So I just noticed that one of my Fancy goldfish has developed dropsy. 0 Nitrates 0 Ammonia 5 Nitrate

Nothing new has been introduced to any of my tanks in the last half year.

Filter is one cannister meant for tanks way larger than mine and a big diy sponge filter.

Should i treat the entire tank or do I isolate (I would rather Isolate because I do want to preserve my beneficial bacteria)? Or what treatment do you recommend. Preferably i would stick to medication baths and dips but in this case i dont think its a viable option.

If you treat the rest of the tank is your choice. Remember that dropsy is hard to treat, but if caught early the fish can recover. (Be careful if you have invertebrates or scaleless fish in the tank, they they react differently to medication)

If you don't know if it's a bacteria or parasite, don't use antibacterial/antiparasitic medication, because if it isn't bacteria/parasites, the medication will stress out the fish. Dropsy can be caused by problems with the internal organs, usually kidney and liver, and is usually fatal. I've heard people use epsom salt or aquarium salt to help. I remember one case where a veterinarian helped, but fish veterinarians are hard to find. Fancy goldfish are weirdly shaped compared to comets and common goldfish, so they are much more likely to have internal problems. I don't think there's anything you could've done to prevent dropsy.

Hey Tumblr!! Help rehab a fish in need of help?

This is the story about how I went to a party and came home the next day with a carrot who likes to swim.

I was at a friends house for a party the other night, and discovered they had abandoned their betta, so I asked them if I could possibly have the fish, and re home it (I grew up my entire life having betta’s, so I have a soft spot for them). Long story short, I now have a fish that resembles a carrot with ranch dip in my care.

(On the left) are the conditions I picked it up this morning in… The water was cloudy, the filter, heater, and light are all broken on the tank she had provided me (as I have discovered today..) in addition to the tank being too small for the fish. There was also weird neon green lumps in the gravel, in addition to the copious amount of poop (which was easy to clean up). And in addition to all this, he is extremely skinny for a Betta, and is suffering from fin rot. I already have him on medication, new food, and  have done a deep cleaning of the tank.

I have no idea what to do about the actual tank situation though, given that I am a struggling college student and in the midst of moving out, so money is non-existent to rehab him properly. Ideally I would like to move him to a larger tank (such as the fluval spec on the right), but I lack the funds to do so. So, I will be starting a go fund me to give this boy the best life possible, in addition to covering his medication.

im still raising money for my disabled mothers dentures [here], though some of the money also goes to helping her with food, gas and car repairs because she depends on her car to get back and forth from her roadside stand and without that she has no income whatsoever. we’re almost there but honestly thats the barest minimum of what she needs.

my dad died from cancer that went to his brain in 2016 and my mom is disabled and trapped in an abusive relationship.  shes in massive debt w the irs and cannot get a normal job. she makes a bit of money from her stand, but its seasonal(SHE HAS NO INCOME FOR 5 MONTHS OF THE YR and those 5 months are coming up fast!) and not enough to live off of, so i supplement the rest AND take care of my own bills. i make 7.50 an hour at my job and despite submitting applications for a better paying job or a second job have had no luck so far.

it feels like everything is on me and im desperate, beyond my moms dentures i have no real goal besides making bills and just EXISTING.
