So out of curiousity, since you're a dnd player, what do you think of the idea of there being a type of lich for each DnD classes (all of them, not just spellcasters), like how the regular lich is for the wizard class and the Mummy Lord is for the Cleric class?
I've been watching Pointy Hat "Which Lich" series on YouTube and it has been really interesting to see, my favorites have been the Hierarch (the Sorcerer Lich) and the Blight (the Druid Lich). He even makes stat blocks on google docs for each of his unique lich types that are free for people to use how they like.
He also even created his own little list of guidelines for when he makes a new lich type that other people can use as well, which are:
Deliberately choose undeath.
Tie your soul to some form of phylactery (he gets very creative with his phylactery ideas).
Lichdom is not passive; a lich must actively work to keep unliving.
As a fantasy bitch in general, I do love the idea of this. And, not a lich exactly, but the mention of a druid being like a blight type thing reminds me of Elder Scrolls in the dungeon Lair of Maarselok (probably spelled that wrong) where there's this blight infecting the area and those that enter it. So, like, the idea of an undead doing something similar would be really cool (taking a shot in the dark since I've not watched the video, just thinking aloud.)
But, yeah, I like this concept. A lot.
