honestly i am very fucking sick of the âyou should leave texas immediately!!!!â line of thinking. like, okay,
1. leaving places is extremely challenging, actually. even with the support of mutual aid groups, every time you move to a different state it a) costs a bunch of money b) makes it much harder to earn money immediately and c) robs you of your community and prrrrrobably family. i have moved across the country a lot of times. itâs Fucking Hard even if you have help
2. a lot of places in the united states are actually very politically inhospitable! between structural ableism, racism, and transphobia, all of which can absolutely be as lethal as the trans news cominâ outta the governorâs office, vast, vast swaths of the country are just as bad!
3. this is my fucking home! my family has been in texas for a lot of generations and goddamnit that means something
if a person in a different position than me either does not feel these problems as acutely, or has solutions for them, great! genuinely, i hope you are able to get to a place where you are safe and supported, not just by your community but by your state government*, but the answer is not âleave texasâ for every person who is affected by the decisions of the state. it is not, it cannot be, and it will never be.
please do not try to tell me that the only way to ensure my safety is to move. help me ensure my safety where i am.
