I was thinking about the Spock/Autism parallels and how being on a ship full of humans who cant understand boundaries they don't necessarily require for THEIR sanity could end up being overstimulating... Being hypersensitive to every loud room you walk into, every brush of an arm. An inexpressible, invisible burden, etc etc.

because like, i think it’s rather integral to their dynamic that q enjoys setting up bizarre little games for picard, yes, but he always, without fail, gives picard a way to win, and seems to genuinely really, REALLY enjoy it when picard manages to get the best of him… which is only possible because q is deliberately setting things up so that picard CAN always get the best of him.

which like, after a while, kind of makes it hard to ignore that what q is actually enjoying is riling picard up and then ensuring that picard wins over him. which is like… it’s already a bratty sub bdsm dynamic just without any explicit sex.

He starts by doing it just a little, once in a while. He messes with his dopamine or his serotonin or his endorphins, and it really does make it tolerable. He's careful. After all, he's a doctor, and he knows his way around a brain.

But, soon enough he's doing it every day, all the time. The strain he's putting on his brain is damaging but addicting.
