What do you mean my mom gets a summons to county fucking court because the neighbors that have only been here for 3 years who bleach their yard dead and barren reported us to the county for having wildflowers, milkweed, and vines (that never even went into their yard mind you) so my mom has to hire a landscaper or pay 5k to the county

And now the landscaper literally just clear cut EVERYTHING so i guess the abundance of birds and beetles and butterflies and fireflies we had was good while it lasted (we even got our first deer this year!!)

Oh im SO sorry our wild and healthy yard emphasizes the hellscape yours is and tears down your precious treeless and flowerless property value (these fuckers are renting anyway????)

They are going to kill this place. They are actively making this area inhospitable. It's already hot enough with the trees shade and the breeze it helps with. What more WITHOUT??? God. I hate HOAs. Who the fuck popularized HOAs??? No one needs them god fucking damn it.

Now where are the birds this area boasts gonna stay in?? Where is the "environmentally friendly" shit that they always throw whenever they get a poor sap whos looking into the fucking lots??? Are they stupid??? They get most of their money from the fucking trees. Hell this fucking area is KNOWN for its trees making it a cool and humid area to live in. God. I HATE HOAs.

The fact that as they are cutting it do they are smiling and laughing with each other like its a job well done. And not just. God. I am so. Overcome. These trees were the only thing making this are even a smidge livable. And here they are just. Cutting it all down with a smile on their face.

Obviously im not shaming the workers. They got paid for this after all. Im talking about the HOA representatives that are overlooking this project. Currently sitting under the shade of A TREE laughing with each other like shits sweet.

A person who is only just barely compliant enough with HOA rules to be able to successfully fight HOA 'citations' and apparently a Karen in the neighborhood finds that so fucking offensive that she called both the HOA AND the city on said person this time. For 'weeds' in the front flowerbeds. Choosing the nuclear option instead of, you know, talking to your neighbor. *thumbs up*

Well, I mention that I hate what the HOA has done to the pool (“renovations” like a creepy invasive app you have to download to get in, taking out the grill, and locking the front gate for no reason) and she agrees with me.

Now eventually, my goal is to get everyone in the neighborhood on board with some real neighborhood organizing, and eventually dissolve the HOA so we can do what we want. But that’s a long way from now.

My mom and I disagree on a lot of things. And it’s easy to disagree on big hot button issues happening far away, because neither of you have any real stake in them. But the neighborhood pool getting enshittified? That’s happening down the street. That’s the kind of thing you can get people to care about. To agree with you on. And my mom, who disagrees with every “political” take I have, thinks that the “renovations” suck ass too.

And once you have a little bit of common ground with somebody, you can start getting somewhere.
