I was thinking about the pilot and I know you guys have talked a lot about it and we’re really far from 1x01 but I was thinking of the cake that they used to knock the girls out and if that had any impact on who was on the island and who was in the water. I haven’t gone back to watch that ep yet but I know Toni was on the beach and she most likely ate all her cake. Leah who didn’t eat much was able to be dropped in the water. An uncontrollable variable for the experiment team right? They can’t make or not make them eat the cake. Just wondering how much of this experiment was able to be planned out. Especially with how S2 ended, I think they’ve been winging it since the get. Just a thought I wanted to share, I’m loving the podcast! Great job guys
Yes! This has always been something that interested me, because what it someone didn’t eat the cake at all? How would they even manage something like that? Sometimes I wonder if the cake was just the initial dose and everyone was dosed again after, but definitely a unpredictable variable for Gretchen and team.
Something interesting is that Rachel also ate far less of the cake than others (we see her only eat the tiniest bit that she measures on the scale) and also woke up in the water — if we believe Nora when she tells Rachel she pulled her in.
I would argue that Leah and Rachel are the strongest swimmers also, and so the risk of having them wake up in the ocean (especially each with a confederate) would have been lower.
Thanks for listening and for this ask! I also do agree that Gretchen does a fair amount of winging it sometimes!
Edit: I was just reminded that Rachel does end up eating a bunch of the cake when the plane went down! So you are right Leah likely ate the least amount of cake!
