hi, Iām that person that said sorry at the end of my thingy! so, I just wanna get some various gender things off my chest.
I still donāt know my gender. I want to be non-binary, but sometimes I feel like a boy, even though I donāt want to be a boy. This might be because of intrusive thoughts (which make my life hell), I think. but referring to myself as a boy OR as a girl both make me uncomfortable. but I donāt know if non-binary is the perfect label. sometimes I feel super like a boy (which I donāt want to, it makes me uncomfortable, but I still do. I like the idea of being a boy, but actually being only or mostly a boy makes me nauseous.) I donāt know what it feels like to feel non-binary. Iāve felt strongly a boy (used to be trans) and strongly a girl (used to be cis), but Iāve never felt strongly non-binary. is that even a thing? or is āfeeling strongly non-binaryā just not feeling like a boy or a girl?
my gender fluctuates a lot. like, A LOT. it may be hormones, may be anxiety, or it might just be me, Iām not sure. (the women in my family have a history of having very unpredictable and strong hormones, so thatās why Iāve mentioned it once again) like, in the morning Iāll wake up feeling neutral, then something will trigger me to feel like a boy (usually the vocaloid4 voicebank Fukase?? they make me question my gender more than anything, itās really weird actually), then I get anxious about it, then I feel neutral again, then Iāll feel like a girl for a few minutes, then a boy, then just plain confused (right now).
I feel like multi gender would be good, but I feel like⦠80% non-binary (or at least Iād like to be, but my brain tells me āoh, if youāre not a girl, you must be a boy then!ā, because it doesnāt let me think for myself. sorry, anxiety disorder.) , 15% boy-like, and 5% girl-like. my identity is so complex that it confuses me. I guarantee that if I didnāt have intrusive thoughts, a habit of ruminating, and general anxiety disorder, I would have myself figured out/just not care as much. but, unfortunately⦠neurodivergence š„²
I just feel like I might be some sort of genderfluid, except some of the genders I⦠fluid to..? (lmao) make me uncomfortable. I really donāt want to be a boy, I have a rather intense fear of men (not gonna get into it, this is about gender, not mental health.)
I think I like the idea of being a boy, but not calling myself a boy? I donāt know. I just want to be non-binary, that feels most like me, but my gender also feels more complex than that. much more complex.
honestly, I just have so many feelings, and I hope someone out there is going through the same thing as me. when I feel too masc, I feel uncomfortable with it, but when I feel feminine, I feel like Iām not actually genderqueer at all and Iām just faking it. (I know I am, itās just my dumb brain that likes to make me question everything too much.)
I donāt know. I might send another ask if I have a better way to describe my feelings later/if my feelings change. this was wayyyy less well-put together than I thought it would be. bye now! your last response did help me, made me feel a bit less alone! my closest friend is not only cis and hetero, but sheās not the most supportive of unique identities, and I donāt feel comfortable talking to her about anything deep. sheās kinda mean, actually, I donāt really like her. and then as for my one queer friend, who is a trans boy, I donāt have his number. although, I would talk with him about it if I could. itās nice to get advice from a genderqueer person. have a nice day! (
also, I didnāt re-read this after typing it, Iām too tired, so ignore any bad spelling/ bad grammar/literal missing words/not making sense.)
Hey!! Sorry for the time it took to reply, I had two exams back to back. Anyhow, glad to hear from you again!
So, to reply, if you want to call yourself nonbinary, you can absolutely identify as non binary!! Feeling like a boy but not wanting to be one is something I see trans boys discuss a bunch, not to say you are one but to say that it's not uncommon and you may want to look through those discussions to see if it's anything similar.
Ill say, there are also masculine/boy aligned genders that are non binary in nature- you dont have to call yourself a boy, even if you feel like one sometimes. You can identify as non binary even if you feel like a binary gender sometimes.
I donāt know what it feels like to feel non-binary. Iāve felt strongly a boy (used to be trans) and strongly a girl (used to be cis), but Iāve never felt strongly non-binary. is that even a thing? or is āfeeling strongly non-binaryā just not feeling like a boy or a girl?
Regarding this, to be honest, Im not the right person to ask because my reasoning for coming out as non binary was "do people feel strongly as one gender? because that is so hard to imagine, I really dont feel strongly as anything" and boom. I was non binary. So I couldnt tell you, I went as non binary for most of my life because of my lack of strong feelings towards any gender. Perhaps look into some maverique experiences, it's a label that defines a gender that is neither boy nor girl but that exists separately, maybe that will help you understand how others feel about being non binary.
If your gender fluctuates so much, it's natural to feel confused! Id say it's a pretty felt genderfluid experience, which is also an avaible label for you if you want to just leave it at that. Non binary genderfluid is a totally valid thing to be.
80% non-binary (or at least Iād like to be, but my brain tells me āoh, if youāre not a girl, you must be a boy then!ā, because it doesnāt let me think for myself. sorry, anxiety disorder.) , 15% boy-like, and 5% girl-like.
Sounds like you got more figured out than you think! And the binary genders arent the only two options, not being a girl doesnt mean you ought to be a boy. It seems to me like you're looking for the perfect label, but you actually know a lot about your gender experience, perhaps no label is that specific, but that's okay. You can identify and call yourself whatever you want, you can be multigender or non binary or genderfluid or genderqueer, it's up to you and you're not "lying" because your gender's complexity isnt completely described with one label.
I think I like the idea of being a boy, but not calling myself a boy? I donāt know. I just want to be non-binary, that feels most like me, but my gender also feels more complex than that. much more complex.

You are not alone anon, I know that for a fact. There's such a mix of factors in how society sees us and what it teaches us that gender comes with some expectations and anxieties and unwanted feelings. It's normal, confusing and difficult, but understandable.
Once again, I reiterate, you can be non binary if you want, you can be multigender genderfluid non binary. Non binary is also not a "no boy no girl" gender neutral label, it is a wide umbrella for everything outside of the rigid binary experience and it can definitely hold the complexity of yours inside of it, it's part of what it was made for. Your gender fluctuating doesnt make you any less valid, and is in fact not that uncommon, it doesnt mean your previous experiences were fake, it just means now is different than before, and that's okay!
I wish you the best of luck and Im sorry your environment isnt supportive. I hope you can find people to talk to about your experience and that you feel safe with <3
