This is wonderful- Soraya, mother of 6, turned a 19th century country store into a home. 

The raw timber walls in the entrance hall have been painted white to bring light into the otherwise dark hall. On the high wooden shelf by the stairs, Soraya placed her collection of wooden hat templates.

In the small of 2 living rooms, the sofa and carpet are second hand, the table Soraya put together from two bases and specially ordered a glass top. The pedestal on the left was carved by Soraya, then covered with mortar. On top is a sculpture she made of clay. Soraya loves to experiment with wall paint. “I test and play until I get a shade that I like.”

A pedestal of her own design that Soraya made herself has an old antique urn on top with some dried hydrangea twigs.  

Adjacent to the living room is Soraya’s workshop.

Soraya’s creative workshop has a beautiful old workbench, flea market chair and shelves made of scrap wood. The walls are in a green tone and in the ceiling she has a matching wallpaper with an Asian pattern.

To hide the cable entanglement, Soraya built a small ledge along the wall, it has since been stained and is now used as a low side table.

Despite their differences, the flea market chairs fit perfectly together: The table is from France with room for many. Along the wall panels, Soraya hung knob strips for storing kitchen towels, aprons and kitchen utensils.

After collecting baskets for a few years, they were ready to be hung from the ceiling. The roll of paper on the wall is the children’s to-do list.

The upper floor houses a bunch of children’s rooms but also a larger living room. Behind the glass wall, the eldest son was given a private room. The window sills on each long side are equipped with daybeds.

Slick bachelor pad in Canada is what is called a “soft” loft. That is, a modern apt. made to look like an industrial space. You’ll notice that the layout is long and narrow, but it works. 

Looking toward the entrance from the living room area.  Artwork carefully placed on the wall adds some character and personality to the space. The furnishings and built-ins have an industrial feel with the mix of wood and metal.

A professional photographer lives here and had it adapted to his needs.  Reclaimed wood materials were incorporated into the design as well as metal elements to create clean, simple lines.

The beautiful office space has custom designed built-ins and shelving perfect for displaying books, personal knick-knacks, and a collection of vintage cameras.

A clean white kitchen is bright and airy, offering plenty of cabinet space and a center island.

In the bedroom, a custom bed was designed on a platform to give the feeling of floating just above the floor.

A clean lined bathroom adds to the modernity of the space. Look at the sunken tub. Wonder why he chose that.

In Kim’s home every room tells a story- she likes merging different cultures and interests.

The beautifully embroidered pieces for the part-Boho, part-California rock chick are all an ode to the global traveler.

The many aspects and layers make her interior personal and special. Bold, understated color forms the backdrop to pieces that have been picked up in flea markets.

Pieces inherited from Kim’s beloved and stylish grandmother have been given a makeover or are simply displayed in a contemporary way. Vintage textiles are used to update cushions, silver candlesticks are clustered in a surprisingly funky way.

Furniture that came before her divorce, and traditional pieces inherited from her grandmother, were given a facelift.

A Japanese screen is split into panels to flank the bed.

A bamboo side-table was upcycled to become the base for a bathroom sink.

I love pretty flower shops in the spring & summer and when Andreas and his husband André saw that an old country store was for sale, they immediately felt that this was where they would realize their dream of their own garden shop.

In the greenhouse, Andreas’ husband is André replanting an English geranium.

Mixed bouquet with phlox ‘Alma Jansson’, mint, home-grown gladiolus, asparagus, lion’s mane and three kinds of dahlias.

The store has mixed pots, mostly from a local potter.

I would love to have a place like this.

Outside the greenhouse is a zinc barrel with rose hips, dahlia and hummingbird mint.

Terracotta pots. Andreas tries as much as possible to buy locally produced products. There used to be 2 places like this near me, but one moved to Vermont, and the other sold out to a self-storage facility.
