the only satisfactory explanation that i can come up with for that line in cita where lettie’s like “ben doesn’t like people to know i’m a witch!” is that actually ben doesn’t care, she’s just been doing something illegal somehow and doesn’t want word to spread. like, lettie was too busy to get licensed to practice magic in kingsbury when she moved there & married wizard suliman and it’s such a bother taking the kingsbury license exam while she’s pregnant and rushing off to visit sophie every other week so at this point she and ben have got a months-long ruse going trying to convince the king and the kingsbury magic inspector that oh yes all of these spells are definitely 100% wizard suliman’s, he’s been so prolific recently, right? and suddenly so fond of honey-based magic!
