raise up your arms, hold up the sky!
[dancers & dragons, spring 2026]
and yes it's quite basic of me but i would really love to do Esmeralda variation high extension be damned
went down an nycb rabbit hole and i have to say that i really like how balanchine dancers tend to have way more skills than just. really high extensions. it feels like the 180 degree extension is EVERYWHERE these days - among young performers and in russian companies especially but elsewhere too - and it's quite frustrating because i'm starting to notice it being used as a cover up or replacement for lack of general technique and artistry.

ballet take that will get me cancelled: most bloch pointe shoes are ugly
which should i dance this year!
sugar plum fairy
dewdrop (waltz of the flowers soloist)
for context, last year i was sugar plum but this year i could a) do the same choreography but en pointe or b) learn different choreography
dewdrop is equally iconic though and it's a little less pressure since you are on stage with other people
when THE dena abergel compliments my pointe technique ..... scream
