WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE AN ORIGINAL?

Penguin has been a brand that I have been a fan of ever since I could remember. My grandpa, actually, wore this old polo from the actual 60’s. And it was a Penguin polo. I always loved the brand, which is why I actually started reaching out to them [Penguin]. I got hooked up that way. It’s so cool to be an Original because Penguin has done a lot of videos that I love, especially the Bryce Vine one. I’ve always wanted to do something with Penguin that’s cool, different, and unique, and I’m really proud of the final video we made.

WHAT’S THE CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING A SONG?

Some songs come right away, while some take weeks. Usually the creative process starts with some chords, then whatever’s on my mind inspires me to write super honest lyrics. However, that’s one of the biggest things for me – to be super super honest in my songwriting. I also try to make music that’s different from what I hear all the time. I kind of hear the same songs over and over, so I think it’s real important to make something unique

HOW'D YOU GET INTO MUSIC AND PERFORMING FOR OUR AUDIENCE WHO DOESN'T KNOW?

I’ve been singing ever since I was a little kid – it’s in my blood! I didn’t want to go to college, and in high school I was always playing in restaurants. It’s a true grass roots story! I didn’t blow up on social media; I didn’t do any of that stuff. I kept doing my thing. It all kind of snowballed into where I am now, where I can make my own music and tour. It all makes it worth it, and because I have such a long journey, I can look back and really appreciate things a lot of people maybe can’t.

IF YOU COULD PERFORM AT ANY VENUE, WHERE WOULD YOU WANT TO PERFORM AND WHY?

Madison Square Garden for sure.

IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A DRINK WITH ANYONE, FROM ANY TIME - WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

My answer will always be Elvis. I would pick Elvis for every reason you could get a drink with Elvis.

IF YOU COULD DO A SONG WITH ONE PERSON RIGHT NOW, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Elvis, 100%!

IF YOU WEREN'T A MUSICIAN, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO BE DOING?

Well it would definitely be something in entertainment just because I love it so much, but if it couldn’t be in that field, something in the fitness industry probably. Fitness is just another big passion of mine, and a big part of my life.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND AND RELAX WHEN THINGS GET STRESSFUL?

I like to go like to coffee shops and hang out and do nothing. Like literally just look around and get coffee. I also like to watch new Netflix shows. Those are two top things I can think of. Going for a run is a good one too.

IF YOU COULD BE ANY ANIMAL, WHAT WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?

I’d be an alligator, because, well, there are a bunch of reasons. One is because they’re in the water and on land, which I think is super dope. And they live forever. They can live for up to a hundred years!

WHO PLAYS SPENCER SUTHERLAND IN A MOVIE?

Zac Efron hopefully. I can only pray. And then, the older version of me would be played by Will Ferrell.

WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU RECENTLY?

So I was just in New Orleans and sang with Harry Connick Jr., but then I also had a dance off with Bryan Cranston. Like literally we had a dance off on stage. The whole time I was just thinking about Walter White or Hal from Malcolm in The Middle.

What does it mean to be an original?

To be an original to us means to be stick to what youre inspired and influenced by and to express how it all comes together in your brain and in your heart.

What’s the creative process like for you when it comes to writing a song?

Every song we write comes together completely differently than the one before, since there are 5 of us the ideas never stop flowing and it can come from any combination.

How’d you get into music and performing for our audience who doesn’t know?

Each of us had a distinctly unique path that lead us on a collective musical journey. Through a combination of music schools and camps and arts programs we all found each other at pivotal points in each others lives.

If you could perform at any venue, where would you want to perform and why?

If we could perform at any venue in the world it would have to be a sold out Madison Square Garden. As 5 born and raised Brooklyn boys thats always been the goal.

If you could do a song with one person right now, who would it be?

If we could do a song with anyone in the world right now, and trust us its a huge list...  but probably Paul Mccartney. A true living legend.

If you had the opportunity to get a drink with anyone, from anytime, who would it be?

If we could sit at a table and share a drink with anyone in the world i think we would probably choose J dilla. or Jay Z

If you weren’t a musician, what would you want to be doing?

If we weren't musicians, i think we probably still be running an arts-based company or possibly a university. A contemporary one that focused on fundamental artistic knowledge constructed in a practical way that would actually help prepare people for real life industry work as well as provide resources to invest in creative ideas.

What do you do to unwind and relax when things get stressful?

When we need to unwind, we usually turn our phones off or set them aside, play some super smash with some glasses of whisky.

If you could be any animal, what would you be?

If phony ppl could be an animal we would definetly be an Octopus, since thats how we already operate.

Who plays Phony Ppl in a movie?

If there were a biopic film about Phony Ppl it would definitely have Corbin Bleu, Michael B Jordan, Donald Glover, Andre 3000, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Brandon T. Jackson, Kevin Hart, Bow Wow. Everyone would want to be in it.

A penguin walks through the door right now wearing a sombrero. What’s he say and why’s he there?

That penguin would walk in ... all conversation in the room would stop.. were looking at the penguin, hes looking back at us.. we look at each other and back at him and ask "shot?" He replies "Gold or Silver?" we both smile. End Scene

What’s the funniest thing that happened to you recently?

One of the funniest things to happen to us recently we got stranded in a Russian airport for 12 hours during what was supposed to be a layover.

WHAT’S THE CREATIVE PROCESS LIKE FOR YOU WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING A SONG?

My whole process is the lack of a creative process. I think the first thing i do is make sure that I have the perfect instrumental. Whether me and the producer created it from scratch or the beat was already made before I come into the fold, I believe that I have to work with a great foundation. Once you have that foundation, the melody is the next part because it creates the walls of the house. Then, there's the words. The words are the roof, the keep everything defined while simultaneously cohesive. Once I have those elements I record as many times as possible to make sure I feel I've gotten my most "real" take and work to finish the song.

HOW’D YOU GET INTO MUSIC AND PERFORMING FOR OUR AUDIENCE WHO DOESN’T KNOW?

I performed for audiences who don't know my music plenty of times. That's the gamble of going on a stage any particular night. Sure there will be fans there specifically for you, but sometimes there will be some that don't know you. I originally started doing shows with a group of homies that I met in college called TFG. We performed for bigger acts and really got our confidence from doing local shows in the area. It's stuck with me ever since. I also used to be in speech and debate so I've always loved speaking to audiences that are willing to listen.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE GETTING TO WORK WITH PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND  

Working with the Pres Hall Jazz Band is a dream come true because of how diverse this group of players is - they've really got it all, talent wise! I'm in awe of their artistry and have been for a while now so it's just incredible to meet with them under these circumstances. I feel like sometimes I can go a long time without meeting people in my own backyard and this is one of those times. They are super approachable and down to earth which made them feel like friends the first couple days of meeting them.

IF YOU COULD PERFORM AT ANY VENUE, WHERE WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I would want to perform in the New Orleans Superdome on a main stage because the first concert I ever attended was NSYNC on their "No Strings Attached" tour which was life changing.

IF YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A DRINK WITH ANYONE, FROM ANY TIME - WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

I would get a drink with my grandmother when she was my age. Often times, you never really get to have the best conversations with your grandparents because they are so far in life that they don't communicate with you in the same way they would their peers. I want to know what my grandma was thinking when she was my age to see if I'm not crazy about how i view life.

IF YOU DO COULD A SONG WITH ONE PERSON RIGHT NOW, WHO WOULD IT BE?

Childish Gambino. That's it. That's the tweet.

YOU JUST DROPPED A NEW ALBUM, WHAT’S NEXT?

What's next is a tour followed by me getting my life more organized to make better decisions in my personal future.  I'm also going to be writing a ton and producing a ton for other artists. when the time comes, I think it's time to give back to New Orleans and all the artists that inspired me in a meaningful way.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO UNWIND AND RELAX WHEN THINGS GET STRESSFUL?

Play Startcraft. It's low-key corny game to most but I love the economy of it all and I'm on my laptop so much that sometimes it's good to use it for something other than replying emails or making music. I'll also meditate for a while (20-30 mins) or read the news - the latter of which seems like a gamble on mental health these days.

IF YOU COULD BE ANY ANIMAL, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

A koala bear. I'ma fan of American Dad and I always had a close connection with Erik Durban's character Reginald the Koala. In real life we are similar because they love Eucalyptus and I do too. Who wouldn't want to smell like eucalyptus? Refreshing.

WHO PLAYS YOU IN A MOVIE?

Brett Gray from On My Block. He's hilarious and my life requires someone with a good sense of humor.

WHAT’S THE FUNNIEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU RECENTLY?

I was at a Spotify party in New Orleans with one of my people. There were a ton of my friends who had invited their moms out to the event so I was meeting very lovely senior women for the entirety of the day. My friend, however, had an accident when he decided to ask an artist friend of mine's assistant if she was his mother. She was so mad that she didn't really speak to either of us for the remainder of that day and I felt bad because I laughed once or twice during the whole exchange.

The movie is set in the ‘60s aka the Golden Age of Hollywood, where TV star Rick Dalton (DiCaprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Pitt) struggle to find themselves in the changing film industry. For those of you who can’t get enough of the heat, here’s a hot twist on yoga that will have your “sweat drippin” and you “beat bumpin”. Stranger Things 3 (SPOILER ALERT!)

This year, fireworks were not the only show we were watching on the 4th. Season three of the popular Netflix sci-fi thriller, Stranger Things, is officially out and we’re here for it. As the gang gets older, things get stranger. We’re not just talking Mind Flayer strange, we’re talking relationship strange too. The beloved gang faces some new challenges when their romantic relationships change the dynamic of their friendships. WHY WON’T ANYONE PLAY D&D WITH WILL?  Follow Eleven and the rest of the gang on their journey throughout Season 3 of Stranger Things and you will be left even more hooked and possibly heartbroken than before. Our vibrant capsule draws its inspiration from the iconic rainbow flag which can be seen in the capsule’s novelty striping, color blocking, and tapes. Check out below to see what we mean!

To truly showcase the fun and bright colors of this capsule, we looked no further than New York based comedian Matteo Lane. You may recognize Matteo from his Netflix special or from his appearances on late night shows with Stephen Colbert. He’s a hilarious dude and truly encompasses what it means to #BeAnOriginal.

Gaining millions of views and a huge youth following, Tom has gone from strength to strength over the last 5 years.

From his debut in Channel 4’s Random Acts through to BBC’s Famalam, Tom has built up an extremely impressive online profile where he posts a variety of comedy sketches and skits.

Taking inspiration from the people who make London tick, it’s all about discovery and pushing creative ideas to help Tom on the quest to perfect his craft. What’s the creative process like for you?

I beatbox a nice little rhythm, line up a melody over that, toss it around in my head until I find a chorus, go back to my guitar and custom build chords and countermelodies around that. And just build up.

If you could get dinner with anyone, from any time, who would it be and why?

Cardi B … she fine and funny as hell. I would just like to have her as a homie in general.

What does it mean to Be An Original?

Understanding that very few people are going to understand you, or why you do things. While being sure to be patient with your self and all you come in contact with,while always following your heart and working hard for what you want.

If you could do a song with one person right now, who would it be?

Jorja Smith … that voice <3

Outside of what you do now, what would be your dream job?

I would love to make bespoke suits. I grew up tailoring and making some of my own clothes because my family was poor. I love the sense of dignity you get when you put on a good suit that fits just you.

What do you do to unwind and relax when things get stressful?

I Go for a walk and force my self look at random things, stress always comes from not being physically present enough.

Slow Cooked Cream Corn

To prepare, mix the first eight ingredients in your slow cooker and then set it and forget it. Set your slow cooker to low and cook for 4-5 hours until warm. When this is done, top with crumbled bacon and green onions.

Green Bean Casserole

Combine the first seven ingredients in your slow cooker and cook on low for 5-6 hours. Once done, stir in the cheese and continue to cook for another 30 minutes until melted. Top with the fried onions and serve.

Now that you’ve cooked up some delicious sides, go sit back, relax, and enjoy your Thanksgiving with your friends and family.

When you think tailgate dips, the first ones that come to mind are chips and salsa, queso, and I’ll even let you throw in a 7 layer dip; but an extremely underrated dip that is often left out is Buffalo Chicken Dip. After you make this dip once, you’ll want to have it for every event you have, not just tailgates. And the best part? It’s super easy to make!

Ingredients

2 Cups of Shredded Chicken (Use a rotisserie chicken… It’s way easier)

8 oz of Cream Cheese

½ Cup of Hot Sauce (We recommend Frank’s, but use whatever hot sauce you like)

½ Cup of Ranch Dressing

2 cups of shredded Colby-Monterrey Jack Cheese

Directions

Throw all the ingredients listed above in a baking dish and mix thoroughly.

Then put the dip in a 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes uncovered.

Take out of oven, let cool for a few minutes and then watch it disappear as everyone eats it.

We’ve covered the food recipe, next on the list is the booze recipe. Beer and whisky are tailgate staples but if you’re not a big beer and whisky drinker, we’ve got you covered with our favorite rum punch recipe. The best part about this recipe besides the ease of it is that because the ingredients are in parts that don’t change, you can easily double… or triple the quantities depending how many people you’re having.

Ingredients

1 part dark rum

1 part coconut rum

1 part pineapple juice

1 part orange juice

½ part lime juice

Splash of Grenadine (to top)

Directions

Pour both rums and all three juices in a large beverage dispenser filled with some ice.

Shake briefly to combine ingredients.

Pour as necessary and top with a splash of Grenadine.

The final part of a great tailgate is having great games that multiple people can play. We recommend Kan Jam; a true classic that everyone can play. Now if you’re playing regulation Kan Jam, the the two kans have to be 50 ft apart, but if you do 25-30 feet, we won’t tell anyone. Just remember, you play to 21 and the points are as follows:

Hit the can on the fly: 1 point.

If your teammate knocks the frisbee through the top opening: 3 points.

Land the frisbee in the top opening on your own: 5 points.

Get the frisbee through the front slot: Automatic win.

As told by a college senior in the midst of it all, the back to school blues are real. What starts off as the feeling that can only be described as a kid in a candy store quickly changes to the feeling of getting hit by a ton of bricks in only a few short weeks. You may have never realized what the distinct stages are, but here they are for your convenience. Don’t worry; there won’t be a test at the end.

Immediate happiness once you step foot back on campus. You and all of your friends are back together.

Party time - no adults, no curfew, no problem.

Piles of school work and lack of sleep start to kick in.

  Time to relax? Unheard of. Time to breathe? Nope, definitely not.

The epiphany. The moment you realize your next time to relax will be Thanksgiving break... in three and a half months.
