This is actually so interesting to read- it’s from 2012 but its full of the same anxieties, even some of the same phrasing that many of the guardian’s later pieces on transness use. really hammers home how much of the terfism that emerged in the late 10s was middle class mothers angry at a loss of control over their adult children- whether that be their bodies or their friends or their opinions- and making that everyone’s problem because they have the power to do so

Also just the classism of her associating tattoos with “vest tops, dogs on chains, broken beer glasses”; like, just say you hate poor people

love when an absolute nightmare of a character is introduced and all you can think is "jesus christ buddy what the hell is your problem" and the narrative gives you a hot minute to stew before explaining Exactly what is Their Problem. and you just sorta sit back in your metaphorical rocking chair and think "huh. yeah okay fair. that would do this to a person, yes."

i had a dream where discord added a new “sex update” where you could declare you and a user were having sex and the menu to do so had dozens of dropdown selection menus for timespan, position, location, style, “flavorings”, and who was topping. what this would actually do is place whoever was set as the top to literally place their icon over yours and would set a timer. no one could message you and discord would autoreply with “sorry, these two users are busy right now! try messaging in [time remaining].” The issue is is that you, yourself, could not message anyone while having the discord sex, and this made me upset because immediately multiple people were setting me to having sex for 24 hours, thus locking me out of using the application and saying I was “busy with sixteen people”
