Miraculous Season 4 Episode 2, Lies
Just a few thoughts on the second episode of season 4 of Miraculous, Lies. I loved how they did the Adrian contrast to the first episode, Truth. It was a great way to introduce the new season.
And of course, we have to talk about the true self scene (That’s what I’ll be calling the scene in the art room where Kagami tries to sketch Adrian.) This is just based on rough memory so some of the details may be off.
Sorry to all you Adrigami shippers, but this episode proves why Adrain and Kagami will never be a couple. In the true self scene, Kagami can see Adrian is wearing a sort of mask all the time. Like her, he has to act a certain way around others, like a perfect child and person, this can also be seen in the new story on Adrian Marinette is watching earlier in the episode. Kagami tells him to act natural, his true self, so he strikes a cat pose (the same pose he uses after transforming to Chat Noir.) She tells him that’s not his true self and he protests saying it is. From that, we can deduct Kagami would probably not be happy being in a relationship with the “true self” Adrian. Adrian acts real with Kagami and wants to be happy with her, but if he ever showed his true self around her, the side that likes to make cat puns and order milk at hotel bars, she defiantly wouldn’t like him anymore.
Then there’s this awkward moment where she pins him to a wall and they almost kiss. You can obviously see Adrian is uncomfortable with the whole thing from the face he makes. The kiss is interrupted by one of their phones going off. Adrian walks out of the room, smiling and blushing about the thing but that could only be because he almost kissed a girl for the first time (the first time he remembered, at least.) Over the episode, we see them almost kiss multiple times but an akuma always breaks it up before their lips touch, similar to how Luka and Marinette’s relationship went.
This might be an odd way to look at things, but what if it’s like the universe was trying to keep Adrian and Kagami, and Luka and Marinette apart? Marinette and Adrian are supposed to be together in the show, perhaps this is the universe’s way of saying they shouldn’t be with who they’re pursuing.
Either way, the purpose of the first and second episodes of season 4 were to show Marinette and Adrian they can’t date someone they can’t be honest with, and they can’t be honest with anyone they can’t tell their secret identity to.
Because of this, I predict we will see some growth in the LadyNoir side of the love square. We already got some cute moments in season a 4 and we’re only on episode three!
Another Prediction: I think the love square will gradually start to reverse where Ladybug starts like Chat Noir for his true self and Adrian starts liking Marinette the more he gets to know her.
Hopefully, this stream of thought on episode 2 wasn’t too confusing to read but I just wanted to get my thoughts down about it and I’m too lazy to do something formal with it lol
