because erlin isnt an adventurer. he wants to settle down and live somewhere nice, maybe become a leader in the church of pelor, help out the heroes that pass through town, but he's not running off for adventures of his own. he doesn't stop beverly outright, bc he knows his husband needs it. but he still misses him, wishes he spent less time on the road.

and beverly is an adventurer. he's one sending message away from breaking out a scroll of teleport or planeshift, joining the band of boobs on the next rescue mission. and he limits himself to the big ones, for the sake of staying at home with erlin, and he's okay with it, missing out, for the most part.

until things start getting bad in the astral plane, and bevs spending weeks there at a time, and someone suggests the boobs buy a house there so theyre not always crashing at alanis' and its looking like maybe bev will be there for a while. and erlin wont go with him, and bev cant say no to a world that needs protecting, and so they finally have to confront the one incompatibility they've ignored for so long, and the fighting gets bad, and almost a century is pretty good for a marriage, and maybe its time for it to end.
