We Are So Back

The demeanor of the character that Pony Express tries to get across is jovial, sanitized and simple like everything the job isn't which puts a twistedly funny light on Curly's disdain that they sell Polle plushies to kids. It is the inherent seedy nature of the Pony Express marketing and advertising themselves to kids, effectively grooming them into becoming future workers through their "comfort" toy being the companies face. He can't believe it both for how obviously gross it is, but because the crew themselves can't imagine wanting it.

The head is missing Curly’s eye likely representing that blind spot Curly had for Jimmy along with the last bit of Curly that Jimmy could feed off of and impose himself through is truly gone now, a realization that likely is another reason Jimmy broke down so quickly after the feast.

A big personal issue with him is the very idea that he doesn’t think he embodies much of either. Or rather doesn’t think it was meant for him. The status is placed onto him from people like Jimmy, the rest of the crew to an extent and Pony Express themselves. He is never exactly excited or eager to hear praise on those fronts as he’s grappling with the existential woe of imposter syndrome and feeling like he’s done nothing despite moving up in those roles.

We buy into Jimmy’s belief that Curly holds himself up on the same pedestal and cares when he’s placed up there and scared of coming down, not that he doesn’t want to. He also just sees himself as some guy. A guy with a lot on his plate. A guy with a lot of responsibilities he doesn’t want. But still just a normal guy. Good and bad. Average. He’s very honest with himself about his own faults, very aware of the the thoughts plaguing him, both by his dialogue in the HFIM DLC and the awareness he shows to Jimmy before he’s shit down. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s good at expressing it to other people but it is the stuff he actually believes about himself.

Ok I am gonna write about this sooner or later cause the original plan for the beginning of the CDAP au was supposed to start as a 5 chapter fanfic of the weekdays before Spamton was sent to the Addisons and then the fic was supposed be second. The chapters were gonna be longer and kinda just Spamton realizing he’s alive again and h being passed around before ending up with the ads.

Swatch was the most constant person to care for him as he was the closest out of the fun gang and the rest of the mansion staff. Swatch was shocked and in disbelief at first, thinking the fun gang was pulling his feathers. Then he saw Spam and could see he was real and breathing and the addison he knew all those years ago. He treated him like a glass sculpture: he was worried, concerned, terrified that Spam would break if handled too roughly or cared for improperly. He didn’t want to give up caring for him but the fountain was very unstable, being at the brink of being deactivated. Whatever it did to Spam left him somewhat fragile at the beginning and Swatch knew little of addison biology or what happened to him. He had not choice to drop Spam off when the effects got really bad.

Thinking about the last ask about Swatch in the au and realized I don’t actually know when we are gonna get to the chapter on him so I wanna talk about him and stuff:

My thing with the addisons and Jevil in my au is that they can sense of air of wrongness about him. Even if they knew he knew what was wrong with Spam or how he had inadverntluy and intentionally fucked with Spamton, their main issue is his vibes really are off.

You see, I headcanon that whatever the caller does kinda splices the secrete bosses between their lightener equivalent and what they manifest as as a darkened. Jevil has not been through the fountain and effectively purified and darkeners can instinctually tell what is a lightener and what isn't. Jevil and Puppet Spam were effectively half dead to a lot of darkeners as half of their beings effectively registered as nothing, unfinished, a mockery. Spamton no longer has that issue but Jevil very much does. It's also how Jevil is no adverse to aggression and thinly veiled threats/weird ominous riddles. He just seems unsafe to be around to them.

Though if they did have the courage to question him on the caller situation, they'd be very protective and defensive of Spamton. Even if Spamton doesn't consider Jevil a physical threat, they can easily see how Jevil's presence uneases him as Jevil would refuse to do the fountain process and thus still has the effects of the caller in him. It'd be passive aggressive and sort of them bickering how Shrek and Fionna's dad do but about who was worst to Spamton. Cause on one hand, they left Spamton to his own and the callers devices and ignored warning signs but on the other, Jevil purposely misled and caused issues for him knowing the gravity of the situation.
