The more I think about it the more I regret certain parts about our wedding. I wish I had been more selective and careful in choosing my bridesmaids. I wish I had chosen only those people who I knew, for sure, were 100% invested.

Boycott âSplit.â
This is a horror movie thatâs not out yet but just seeing the trailer really pissed me off. The trailer basically described a movie about this mentally ill man that kidnaps these girls and its heavily implied heâs going to kill them. The man is said to have a âpersonality disorderâ (Itâs not actually a personality disorder itâs been reclassified as Dissociative Identity Disorder) and that alone already gives people the impression mentally ill people are dangerous. However, they go on to say that the man has 23 different personalities, which the woman diagnosing him claims that sheâs ânever seen a case like thisâ when in reality there are people recorded to have many more identities than this, and someone treating DID would know this. Overall, the movie really portrays the symptoms wrong and itâs another movie that demonizes mentally ill people. Please save your money and see another movie.Â
Normally I wouldnât reblog stuff like this here, but please donât see this movie. Dissociative Identity Disorder is so misunderstood to where itâs constantly played off to be faked/made up, so ârareâ you would never meet anyone with it (itâs actually about as common, if not more, than schizophrenia or autism, but misdiagnosis and stigma even in the medical field is rampant), or in the case of this movie, portraying those with DID like dangerous killers.Â
Iâm appalled that itâs almost 2017 and we have a movie like this coming out when DID gets so little recognition that this is just really dangerous misinformation to spread, for not just mentally ill folk, but those with DID specifically.
Dissociative Identity Disorder is not a personality disorder (and referring to it as multiple personalities is incorrect), but a Dissociative disorder that develops in childhood when repeated trauma causes a child to be unable to integrate a singular sense of self. New alters form in response to a stressful/traumatic situation. Titling the movie âSplitâ is even more horrific because itâs using a term specifically used to refer to when an individual with DID undergoes enough trauma/stress to have to split a new alter to survive as a horror movie title portraying alters as dangerous.

At this point I don't even want to bother trying to have kids. I'll just live vicariously through my sister and nephew/niece.

Can I have a reproductive system that makes sense and works properly?
âThis video of this adorable little girl encouraging her Dad while he tries to do her hair, is just what we needed to brighten up our day.â [X]
[Dad: Howâm I doing on your hair? Child: Good! Dad: Letâs see, do I need more grease? Child: Yes. You need more grease on there. Dad: More grease? And then what? Child: And then you gonna need to brush it, and then you put a band on there. Dad: A band on it? Child: Yeah! Dad: Aww.. Child: Youâre getting it through! Youâre almost done! Youâre doing a good job! Dad: Aww, thank you, sweetheart, so much! Daddyâs trying, doing the best I can. Thank you so much. Child: Youâre welcome! Dad: Iâm almost done! Child: You been doing great! Dad: Aw baby, thank you so much, youâre so encouraging to Dad. Thank you. Child: Youâre welcome. Dad: I really appreciate you so much. Youâre so awesome. Daddy getting your ponytails ready for school.]
Interrupting all the political ugliness to make you melt with cute.
Me as a father
this is so pure
Kids that age are parrots of tone and phrasing. So the whole bit with âYouâre getting it through! Youâre almost done! Youâre doing a good job!â means that there is at least one adult, if not more, in her life that regularly talks to her that way.
Everything about this video makes me happy.
This is good parenting
My niece and nephew are giving me serious baby fever. Ugh.
IM SO FUCKING TIRED OF ALL THE GOD DAMN PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENTS ON FACEBOOK. STOP REMINDING ME THAT I'M BROKEN/DEFECTIVE.

Oh, joy. Look at all the people having babies on my Facebook newsfeed. Iâm over here all like, âDoes my uterus even work correctly?â
I really donât get this thing with social media where we let employers dictate our lives and take away autonomy outside of the workplace. They pay us for the time we are there. They do not pay us to keep our facebooks squeaky clean of things we wouldnât do at work.
And instead of collective public outrage at their insistence that we should behave outside of work the way we are expected to behave at work because they pay us to behave that way at workâŚâŚ we roll over and let them do it. I canât tell you how many friends of mine ask me if I think something would be appropriate on their facebook page. 25 year olds afraid to post a photo of them at a bar with a glass of beer because their employers or grad school admission boards would punish them for it? as if a 25 year old having a glass of beer is scandalous and wrong?
Things like a friend questioning a parody beatboxing video on her instagram or friends not wanting to have a sparkler with the word âfuckâ on their instagrams. Again, 25 year olds. A 25 year old person censoring âfuckâ from their personal instagram because they arenât allowed to say it at work as if that should have any bearing on their saying it not at work.
This is unethical. Employers should not have the right to dictate how we behave outside of work. We need to collectively present outrage and demand that our personal lives be personal lives. Or else when you get employed, they donât own your time while youâre at workâŚ. they own your life. This is unchecked capitalism and itâs really not okay. If this is our lives, what the fuck is freedom and personal choice? Who has agency? Itâs not okay.
alton brown: alright, chefs. you have thirty minutes to prepare⌠chicken. as iâm sure you already know, chicken is typically prepared with chicken, and has a nice flavor of chicken
some chef, inevitably: i look in my basket and i realize i forgot the chicken
âDoctors who spent years studying the human bodyâ
Do you mean doctors who spent years learning about abled white cis menâs bodies
do you know anything about the world besides what you read on tumblr
Okay but this is true?? Shut up with your bullshit, the medical industry for a very very long time has used the able bodied white cis male as their standard and that has very real healthcare consequences for a lot of people.
Do you know why most women donât know when theyâre having heart attacks? Why heart attacks kill more women than men? Because symptoms of a heart attack are different for women and the ones that doctors usually recognize and publicize are the symptoms experienced by men. Do you know why itâs so difficult for Black and Brown people to get diagnosed if they have skin cancer? Because doctors have been taught to recognize it on white people. People of size are constantly told that their problems are entirely because of their weight and doctors donât even bother to look beyond that to be sure thatâs the case. So those people have medical conditions go undiagnosed properly for years, and die in the process. Fuck, even just the fact that people think itâs okay to charge women more for healthcare because âthey have extra partsâ (?????) is indicative of the way the male body has been considered the standard for fucking ever. And the healthcare needs of disabled people or trans people? Forget about it.
OP is 1000% right. The medical industry has used the able cis white male body as their standard of care for CENTURIES and that has real consequences for the rest of us today. Itâs getting better but itâs not where it should be. So fuck off with your snarky commentary, youâre wrong. The healthcare industry is not equipped to handle the needs of people with disabilities, women, PoC, trans people, people of size, etc. and thatâs in large part due to the fact that the established body of medical knowledge was created by studying able, cis, white male bodies almost exclusively.
Hey there folks, speaking as a trained EMT and a pre-med student, I can confirm that the above person is approximately 7000% accurate.  In my EMT training, I would repeatedly ask ââbut what if my patent is a womanâ or âwhat is my patient is a person of colorâ and at first all I got was shock.  Then I got confused bumbling.  I got some answersâbasic symptoms of a heart attack in women, how to recognize cyanosis in someone of color, the basics of how to work with an autistic patient or someone who for whatever reason canât communicate well with you.  In fact, EMTs and other EMS workers are getting a lot better at learning the differences between the health care for a person of color or someone disabled.  We were even told that we would need to ask our patients for their biological sex (I know, Iâm really sorry, I know that there are people who find this intensely uncomfortable or even harmful, but there are real medical reasons for this and most decent EMTs will use whatever pronouns you ask them to).  But most if not all of the answers we were given about women were directly related to gynecological issues.  The guys teaching me?  They were good guys.  Nice.  Funny.  Smart.  Devoted to caring for patients.  Impassioned about protecting people, especially women and teenaged girls, from assault.  Largely not sexist toward me or their coworkers.  Hell, they were even smart enough to say âlisten, boys, the women in this class have a higher pain tolerance than you, they just do, and as a rule if a women says their pain is a 5 on a scale of 1-10, assume itâs somewhere around an 8â when a kid laughed during the gyno unit.  But they just didnât know what to say when I asked âso if youâre supposed to palpate the patientâs chest, what do you do if your patientâs a triple-Dâ or when I asked âso if your patient gets menstrual migraines, how do you know if this headache is a stroke or not.â  They had never been taught.  This is a real problem, one that many medical professionals work hard to remedy once they start practicing.  But this is not bullshit.  At all.  The standard patient is a cis white guy with no disabilities or chronic illnesses.  Itâs a huge fucking problem and Iâm going to need you to step down with your bullshit, there, friend.
This is an issue with mental health too, where people of color (black and Hispanic people especially) are less likely to be taken seriously with mental issues, and where community outreach for these groups is very very different from the kinds of programs that might be effective for white people.
Autism is rarely diagnosed in women because the symptoms doctors look for are all specific to men. Doctors used to blame depression and other mental illnesses in women on a misbehaving uterus, and itâs still a struggle for women to get their symptoms taken seriously enough to merit proper treatment.
Mental health for LGBT people has a long history of being an oppressive shitshow, given how long it took the medical community to stop pathologizing sexuality and gender identity. (Conversion therapy is still legal!)
As well as autism rarely being diagnosed in women, itâs also harder for a person of colour to be diagnosed, as itâs perceived as being a middle-class+ white manâs disease.
And! We didnât know how large the clitoris was until THE NINETIES because no-one thought it was worth investigating. Thanks to a female researcher in Melbourne, Australia, we know that itâs roughly a wishbone shape, and has two âlegsâ that extend down under the labia majora.Â
(I am proud of my memory as I read this in a book five years ago, but hereâs a link. The researcherâs name is Helen OâConnell.)
Yes yes yes
Person: This systematic oppression is such bullshit Anti-SJW: um excuse u tumblr isnât god so how do u believ evrything u read here, checkmate :) Person: *pulls out a hundred sources and receipts about how sociology is kind of a science with evidence* Other people: *join in with the receipts* Anti-SJW: *sweats nervously from such a cosmic drag* Random shit: Tumblr is so mean :(

Scientists discover most relaxing tune ever
Sound therapists and Manchester band Marconi Union compiled the song. Scientists played it to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay. Weightless works by using specific rhythms, tones, frequencies and intervals to relax the listener. A continuous rhythm of 60 BPM causes the brainwaves and heart rate to synchronise with the rhythm: a process known as âentrainmentâ. Low underlying bass tones relax the listener and a low whooshing sound with a trance-like quality takes the listener into an even deeper state of calm.
JESUS CHRIST
This really works.
#Iâm actually really angry about this (@aaronbutterfield) guess it doesnât work on everyone thenâŚ
@idareyoutotakealook bite me.
