Give Love, Get Love

It's on my list to record as a podfic when I get a quiet enough house in the next few weeks.

I know I have sent love to the community as a whole a few times, but I’m feeling sentimental and want to do that again. Practically every interaction I have had with people within this community has been lovely. Y'all are so kind and encouraging. The stories y'all write, the headcanons y'all come up with, the art y'all make… wonderful. and, the comments and love y'all spread within this fandom is beyond lovely. so, y'all deserve hugs and kudos and I’m just glad I dove deeper into this fandom on my return to tumblr. I haven’t felt this invigorated and eager to write in so long and this community helps with that, so THANK YOU ALL. <3

Chowder could not believe his eyes. 

The frogs were chilling in the hot tub — not anywhere close to five feet apart because they were all gay (well Chowder was bi and Nrusey was pan but that was beside the point) but also weren’t dating so there was a bit of space between them — on Jack’s balcony when Dex had said it. 

“I’ve never kissed a boy.”

“What? But you went to screw with that guy from the soccer team!” Nursey exclaimed, waving with his red solo cup wildly. “And you went on that date with… what’s his name. Jonathan! I thought you’d kissed them!”

Dex shook his head, his cheeks turning adorably pink. 

“We’ll set you up!” Chowder exclaimed at the same time as Nursey said, “I’ll kiss you.”

“What?” Dex said, staring at him. 

“Well Chowder is with Cait, obvi, but I’m not seeing anyone. And clearly it is a travesty that you’ve never been kissed. So.” he shrugged like it wasn’t a big deal but Chowder could see the chill facade. He wondered if he should intervene.

“You don’t have to do that, Nurse. I can find someone to kiss.”

“What if I want to?” Nursey said. 

“What.” Dex said again, completely deadpan. 

“Chill, Poindexy. You’re cute as heck. I’ve always kinda wanted to kiss you.”

“You have?” Dex gaped.

“Chyeah.”

“But you hide it so well!” 

Nursey chuckled. “You wanna kiss or what, Dex?”

“Yeah, I really do.”

As one, the two passed their cups to Chowder and he watched, mouth agape, as they met in the middle of the hot tub and kissed. 

And kissed. 

And didn’t stop kissing. 

“Um, guys?” 

They broke apart with a gasp of air but didn’t move apart from where they had wrapped themselves around each other. 

“Helluva first kiss,” Dex said weakly. 

“I kinda want it to be my last first kiss ever,” Nursey said. 

“Dramatic much?” Dex chirped, but he was grinning. 

“Well? Am I wrong?”

“You’re not wrong,” Dex admitted, his cheeks somehow turning even pinker. 

“Should I leave?” Chowder asked. 

They turned to him as though they’d forgotten he was there and burst out laughing in unison. 

“Nah, we’re chill,” Nursey said, guiding Dex back to the bench he’d been sitting on and wrapping his arm around Dex’s shoulders. Dex nestled into Nursey’s side. 

Chowder passed their cups back and they all took an awkward drink. 

“Yeah, no we’re gonna go make out more,” Dex declared, standing from the bubbling water and pulling a laughing Nursey after him. 

“See ya, C!” 

Chowder just smiled after them. The hot tub was a great idea.

it’s a poetry sequel to @shadowfaerieammy‘s The Thing About William Poindexter, in which nursey is convinced dex is a werewolf. it def won’t make sense if you haven’t read that first.

nursey carries around at least three notebooks at all times: one for words he finds and likes, one for stray thoughts to explore later, and one for actual writing. he’s had up to seven notebooks in his bag at once. both the team and his english major friends chirp him for the sheer number of notebooks this boy lugs around.

he’s tried digital versions of this (his bag had started getting heavy, after all) but there’s just Something about the physical act of writing

he’s tried to capture this Something in words several times and never quite gotten there (me too, nurse. me too.)

even with the number of notebooks he carries, he still Often manages to end up having to write on napkins and whathaveyou (disaster gay derek nursey nurse 4 LYFE)

nursey’s favorite bus game is coming up with poems based on the signs they pass. he’s always trying to get the guys on the team to play with him

I have come to discuss writer!Nursey headcanons! Consider: notebooks hidden everywhere because he constantly misplaces them, thinking that if there is one everywhere he will always have one handy, but that just makes him lose them. One is found in Bitty’s bathroom behind the toilet. Nobody knows when or how it got there

“Mount your broom, but don’t fly too high. We’ll start low. I’ll be on the ground for now, and we’ll work our way up.” Jack said, removing his wand from his jacket. He pointed it at the dodge balls, murmuring a spell that Bitty had never heard of before.

“What are you most looking forward to about retirement?” the reporter had asked at the press conference Jack called to announce his retirement at the end of the upcoming season.

“Staying home and being a house husband.”

Jack retires, and steps out of the spotlight. Or, five times Jack Zimmermann is more than happy to be Eric Bittle’s trophy husband.

Problem: I can’t leave kudos again.

Beginner: This is a second/third/fourth Kudos

Advanced: This is my second/third/fortieth time reading this, I still love it so much. Here are a few new things I noticed. I like the way you personally do x, y, z compared to other authors I’ve read (in this ship/genre/fandom).

Problem: I don’t know what to say :(

Beginner: Just list what you did to read this fic. “I stayed up late reading this”, “I read this on a crowded train”, “this kept me company while sick”. 

Advanced: X,Y,Z parts made me get butterflies, and I had a physical reaction to this part of the story, I squealed outloud when characters did x,y,z. I blushed at this part. I laughed out loud here. Whatever. 

Problem: I’m embarrassed to leave a comment (what if I annoy the author?)

Beginner: Short answer: you won’t EVER annoy the author (unless you’re needlessly mean) But to start, be generic, you don’t have to spill your soul in the comments section. “I liked this” “I enjoyed reading this” “nice fic”.

Advanced: This really meant a lot to me that you wrote this. This is something I feel like I’ve always wanted to read. This fic hit me in all the right places. Etc. 

Problem: I don’t know how to express myself/my experience
