there's angst in it, too, but given the way nicotine makes some people feel really sick, i'm laughing about the idea of poor shane not knowing that he's just REALLY sensitive to it in their early days and ilya who was nervous but would never admit it so ALWAYS smoked a cigarette or two right before meeting up
to the end result that their early meetings were always quick so shane didn't start feeling sick until after ilya had already cleaned up and gone, so he thought it was just his body telling him this was a bad idea and don't do it again and gotta stop-
-until next time when he just couldn't resist
and over time, ilya stopped smoking before meeting up (and eventually really smoking at all) because shane always complained about the smell, so shane stopped feeling sick after, and after they're together, shane just sometimes fondly shakes his head at past self him like "oh buddy, that must have just been anxiety getting you. silly past me. i'm so happy i'm settled into this now. :)"
until the day ilya has a really stressful day and just REALLY needs that hit so buys some nicotine gum as a compromise, chews it, chases the other stress relief of making out with his boyfriend (with shane complaining about the taste but not pulling away) starting to get frisky-
-and then shane bolting to the bathroom to get SO sick
and he REMEMBERS this feeling
which means he puts the pieces together of what EXACTLY had him spiraling out about getting so sick back in the early days of struggling with his sexuality and just turns to ilya like

oh MAN, afterwards, though, ilya becomes THE most militant "put that out" person in any given gathering if shane is around. doesn't matter how many times shane tells him he doesn't need to do that. he's still doing that.
they're having dinner with some of ilya's old team from boston, someone lights up because they're out on the patio, and ilya fully pulls the cigarette out of their hand and stubs it out.
and the rest of the team WHO HAS SEEN ILYA SMOKE SO MANY TIMES is just ??? what??? just happened????

AT LEAST THE FIRST PART OF THE EXPERIENCE WAS FUN
I can’t stop thinking about Miko. Like at all. So I propose to thee:
I know we said Shane is Miko’s little brother whom she loves very dearly (read: heckles and annoys the shit out of him), but don’t you think Miko deserves a little sister? A girl HAS to have a sister!!
Yuna, who is part of a group of avid bird enthusiasts, learns about another bird who needs a new home. She’s the same species as Miko and her previous owner was also Japanese (this bird speaks Japanese!). There is no one else more perfect to take her then Yuna. So, one of Yuna’s friends from the group obviously had the great idea of mentioning this to her. Now Yuna can’t help but keep thinking about this bird who is all alone and needs a family.
“David! We have to! It’s destiny! Shane just moved out!”
(In this verse this obviously happens when Shane starting his rookie season)
So empty nesters Yuna and David acquire a second bird, Miko’s brand new little bird sister, Keiko.
Shane is not very happy when he ventures home for a long weekend and is swarmed by two birds shrieking his name.
“SHANE. SHANE. SHANE. SHANE.”
They sound practically demonic. Shane is very much NOT pleased at all. He now has to deal with double the trouble and teasing from his bird sisters.
Bird sisters. BIRD SISTERS. SISTERS. Sisters plural. He could cry.
Keiko has been learning from Miko, so now double the chaos ensues.
OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SO MUCH
i love keiko the parrot (in multiple senses lmao) who doesn't know WHY they're screaming this word, but miko started doing it when this strange man walked through the door so sure!! she'll join!!! SHANE! SHANE! SHANE!
shane goes home to visit for the first time after they get keiko, opens the door to a wall of noise, and then just. shuts it.
he has to take a walk around the block before he's ready to try again.
in actual fucking TEARS cackling about this
shane going through personal relationship war and can't even have the initial, "hey this is ilya. i love him." conversation beCAUSE THESE LOUD ASS BIRDS!! WON'T SHUT!!! THE FUCK UP!!!!
conversation gets derailed and poor ilya is now just. standing there. (because also didn't get a warning about the birds existing because shane didn't think about it when The Everything Else was more pressing, and also he played it off for shane's sake, but i do think he was a little nervous, too, about how this would go.) because now shane has to go over and greet the birds so they'll shut the fuck up and everyone can hear each other, but miko is mad they came to House Where Shane Comes Over Often and shane didn't come over often, so she starts climbing down her perch and extending her lil foot and going "SHANE! step up? up? pretty bird step up?" and shane is trying and failing to negotiate with the fucking bird WHO CAN'T READ A ROOM.
so now he has to be holding miko, and obviously keiko doesn't want to get left out if her sister is going to be hanging out on someone, so she skitters down, too, and pulls a "up? up? step up? SHANE! step up?"
like tbh might ultimately be good for shane in the long run from the tension broken by the accidental physical comedy of having to try and come out while holding two big ass birds who are also curious about New Person and keep going, "hello" "konnichiwa. hiiiiiiiii" "hello hello pretty bird? hello" "hiiiii" at ilya, who does not. know how to help shane rn.

the parallel drawn between ilya and his mom isn't meant to be subtle. she was so funny and beautiful. she was so sad. my dad was so hard on her. she would've loved you like i love you. so when ilya says he doesn't want shane to think she was weak, that line makes me want to scream. he has so much shame around his depression when it comes to shane. he doesn't want shane to think He is weak. (spoilers) he spends all of tlg keeping his issues secret from shane because he's determined to "fix" it on his own so shane never has to know, ilya never has to be a failure or an inconvenience to him. so in the end when he is finally in a place to come out and say listen if you're going to commit to me you need to know that i'm like my mom and i might always be - and for shane to just hear him and say well i'll be right here - is a massive release of shame for ilya

Sarah being tied up and naked, legs tied open, and a shell of herself, is what Freaky Nikki believes what Bear likes because he is using Nikki without her consent/ she isn’t there.
Nikki threatens to shoot herself in the vagina and actually pulls it out of there and limps. Because he cares about having sex with her, not her as a human being. It also emphasizes that the demon associates her vagina with violence bc of Bear’s SA on nikki

It brings me no end of joy that a Disney released theatrical Star Wars movie (which is basically DLC for a disney plus show but that's another conversation) is getting smoked in its second weekend by two low to mid budget horror movies made by first time directors in their 20s given basically blank check creative control. Things are looking good for the movies these days

Was thinking about how fitting it is that Bear wants to be a food critic while Nikki wants to be a writer.

the fact bear only tried to cancel his wish after being told he couldn’t alter it (and, seemingly, because he was uncertain about how real nikki’s love actually was) - instead of wanting to do that from the start, as soon as it was clear that something was wrong with nikki - makes me so, so devastated for her. it’s clear he was more concerned with what he was getting out of the wish, rather than the detrimental effect it was having. and like, everyone could tell something was up with nikki, it’s not as if it wasn’t clear. him hanging up the phone as soon as nikki is out on the line (screaming) is so symbolic of how he is completely ignoring how he is ruining her life throughout the film
