I’ve been largely avoiding VNs for most of my life for a number of reasons that don’t make sense in retrospect, so I figure it’s time for me to just dive in head first.
I bought Steins;Gate for the Vita.
So far it’s pretty good, but the occasional text wrapping error is really off-putting, and I question the translation occasionally but I don’t know Japanese so it doesn’t matter.
Wish me luck.
The translation is universally said to be good. Shame about the text wrapping errors though, the PS3/Vita team really messed that up (it’s not present on the PC version).
If you play the Visual Novel it's very clear that Luka is not a transgendered individual, but a repressed homosexual struggling with how to express his true feelings for Okabe. When referred to as a female, he always corrects people. He uses masculine pronouns. His style of dress is not due to personal preference but due to his overbearing father and his neglectful sister forcing these things on him and him slowly growing used to the style of dress. His father decided even when Luka was born that he would be the "perfect shrine maiden", Luka's elder sister was a tomboyish biker-type chick who shirked all her responsibilities on to her timid and lithe younger brother. Their father insisted on garbing Luka as a miko and forced him to carry out the duties typically given to females from a young age. His entire chapter in the original story is about how even if he's 'I' (boku) or 'me' (watashi), that doesn't matter at all. Male or female, Lukako is Lukako in the eyes of Okabe Rintaro, he's a beloved friend and disciple. Someone that does not need to change himself in order to feel more accepted. Okabe comes to terms with how Luka feels for him and, while he can't reciprocate, he can definitely acknowledge them in his own way. In summary, Luka's desire to become a female is not born out of misplaced identity or gender complications, it is born out of a belief that his confused feelings towards Okabe would somehow become more appropriate to act upon. Luka is of the firm belief that if he were born as a girl, he'd definitely get together with Okabe (though he still has the same shyness even as a girl). I'm quite fond of Luka's story in the VN, because it's about embracing yourself no matter what you are and not forcing yourself to change. I believe his character song best sums this up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMpSmPgHLgM
Reading Steiner (Steins;Gate translator/editor) answering why Urushibara Luka is NOT trans.
Question. How does the Steins;Gate VN work? Are there several different routes like F/SN? Or just different endings based off the decisions you make? I’m about to start reading it and I’m just curious.
One route, alternate endings and a true ending (which is the only one that wraps everything up). There are 6 endings all together.
3 of the endings branch off early like the bad ends in F/SN and are each around an hour long. There’s the default ending if you reach chapter 10 without getting any of the true ending flags (I recommend just seeing this on Youtube or something else you want to skip through most of the VN to see it). There’s the close but not enough ending if you don’t get all of the true ending flags (this stops before the true ending and is otherwise the same, so it’s only worth it for 100% completion). And finally, the true ending itself which you get by getting all of the true ending flags.
Below is a guide for getting all the endings, which is recommended since it can be tricky to get the true ending flags. Also, the true ending flags don’t start until chapter 4.

Steins;Gate VN question
Just noticed this on a subsequent playthrough, in the beginning of Chapter 1 when Okabe is recalling what happened on the streets outside Radio Kaikan, he and Mayuri talk to a police officer. While Okabe is trying to get info, the guy grabs him and says “nobody got stabbed at Radio Kaikan,” then nothing about him is ever mentioned again. Am I missing something about this being explained? My best guess is the officer was from SERN and trying to get rid of Okabe for the time being, meaning he knew what was in the original Dmail. It mostly serves as a creepy tidbit for Okabe but I can’t remember it ever coming up again.
He was just a regular policeman.
Geometric Space, the theme song to Steins;Gate’s Epigraph Trilogy, translated. Let’s hope Zero’s OP can top this one.

Does anyone know if Game Stop has the Steins;Gate game for pre-order? They have it on Amazon but I really don’t want to get it from there.
Amazon exclusive right now.
I just finished Umineko
There are no words.
How are your feels?
Utterly decimated
It ok. Someday the pain will go away….
I sincerely doubt it….
Be strong sister, be strong.
I’ll try to be. At least I have other people to talk to about it. And to force to read it.
And now there’s the Higurashi VN on Steam...
