I think ao3 is literally the only site where no censorship means no censorship. you can post the most vile things on there â things that will get taken down on any other platforms â and ao3 will protect you, your works, and your rights to create whatever you want, however you want.
and no, this isnât me saying âwrite that messed up, disgusting thingâ because while, yes, write it if itâs what you want (I myself enjoy writing dark fics, something I believe would be considered âvileâ to a lot of people), this is me saying in a world of censorship and capitalism, ao3 really is a treasure.
everybody say thank you ao3

Art for fic: Are you two a couple?
marvey + ao3 tags
Short lil angsty marvey thing I wrote with eyes half closed. Inspired by The Thrill Of Loneliness by Hana Stretton!
Ps. itâs all over the place and kinda bad but alas I needed it out.
Voice messagesâ Marvey
Mike has evolved from tolerable to annoying in an endearing way. He convincesâno, forces Harvey to leave long voice messages when heâs out and about, when theyre apart.
Some voice messages are 30 second or less, others are a full on minute because Mike demands it, it can be something as simple as just Harvey replaying what heâs doing at the moment, what his plans are in the next five minutes, or how some client dinner went, sometimes Harveyâs eye roll can be heard through the voice message and he stalls as the message is rolling.
Mikes reason for this new demand? He loves Harveyâs voice. Thatâs all. He likes hearing him speak about his day, as rare as it is, because Mike is always the one with the mouth, heâs always the one rambling. And now for once he managed to semi-convince and semi-force Harvey to do the same, even if itâs through voice messages.
Mike of course, does the same. He leaves long voice messages, way more enthusiastic than Harvey, he rambles about his day, talking about even the most mundane things. It warms Harveyâs heart, even if he doesnât admit it, or smiles in a way that Mike just knows without needing to hear it out loud.
Everything was perfect. It really was, until Harvey had been reminded brutally that itâs never for long.
Mike had gotten into an accident on that cursed bike, eventually. Harvey had been there, by that hospital bed, holding Mikes hand like if he gave his warmth to the rapidly cooling body then Mike would wake up and tell him he was simply playing dead. He wasnât. It was never that simple. And Harvey couldnât deny that he couldnât let go for hours, he couldnât. It hurt, so bad. He was so sure hours earlier, he and Mike, when he could barely even whisper, heâd told him then, âIâll be fine, Harvey.â
Harvey wanted to believe him. But even he couldnât ignore the way the doctors were almost bracing to even approach Harvey with their solemn looks. Harvey couldnât look away from Mike, not when his eyes were so glossy, not when his smile was failing to be reassuring, not when heâd finally fluttered his eyes half closed, and finallyâ âyouâre the best thing thatâs ever happened to me, Harvey.â
âDonât forget that, okay?â
With that now wobbly smile that Harvey would learn to engrave in his mind, Mikes last. He squeezed his handâ âdonât forget.â
Harvey couldnât even say anything, he wanted to, to say that he knew the bike should have been the first thing gone. But godâhe couldnât when Mike first awoke, he couldnât now, not when he could faintly hear the flatline sound. Not when Mikes hand slipped from his.
Not when he felt his heart die alongside Mikes.
He felt dazed, tunnel vision coming, he could faintly hear voices behind him, around, everywhere. He could faintly feel a hand in his shoulder nudging him back. He stood his ground, he stared at Mike, the whole time, he stared at the way his eyes were closed as if he was simply sleeping. He stared at the way his usually pink lips were drained of color and slightly parted, no huffs of breath, nothing.
Mike Ross was truly, utterly, gone.
Harvey had been forced eventually. He had been taken home by Donna, he couldnât hear anything but the life around him collapsing, mentally or physically. Harvey couldnât know.
He fished his phone out eventually. He clicked mikes contact, he stared at the profile picture heâd chosen for him, one Harvey had taken of him on a winter night, a week before Christmas, mikes brilliant blue eyes staring up in awe at the decorations, as if heâd never seen them before years prior. Harvey adored him. He stayed staring at the picture for what seemed like hours. But what he really came here for, was the voice messages.
Harvey hesitated, not because he didnât want to hear Mikes voice again. But because he knows, that if he does, godâheâll break. But damn it all, heâll gladly break to hear Mike again. Even if it kills him. Especially if it kills him.
He starts with the most recent one. The one Mike had sent a day before the accident, he soundedâŚanimated, happy, as he always seemed to be after their relationship went public. Harvey felt himself smile despite it all. He felt himself relax slowly as the message went on, hearing Mikes voice carry energy, about how he almost thought of buying Louis a coffeeâfollowed by a laugh of disbelief, one that had Harveyâs heart clenching, in pain, in delight, everything all at once.
The voice message ended. The silence that followed felt suffocating, enough to have Harvey gasping for air, he could feel fresh warm tears prickle the corners of his eyes, he pressed play on another message before he could think.
âOkay, okay! I know what you say all the time, Harveyâbut listen, we could totally get a puppy, even tho yesâI can see it now, that stupid look you give me, I know Iâm the puppy, okay? But like, it gets lonely being the only scruffy one, wouldnât you like a fuzzy little guy running around your apartment?? Wait donât answer that, i think youâve definitely had nightmares about this exact scenario, actuallyââ
Harvey doesnât feel the tears cascading down his cheeks as the message keeps rolling, he just feels the tug of his lips in a warm smile as he stares off. Mikes voice echoing through the cold condo. Harvey had rejected the idea that day, but heâd told Mike heâd consider it, and even nowâhe could see the sparkle in those eyes, a challenge.
He wishes heâd fulfilled that want now.
Thatâs how Harvey spends the night, every night, with mikes voice swallowing the cold and empty feeling that is now Harveyâs life. He sees the sun rise, every time, and stillâhe plays another message. Exhaustion is a dull ache compared to the peace he feels the moment he hears that voice, even if temporary. Even if the messages will eventually end, even if heâll need to replay them all over again for the rest of his life. A life that isnât worth much, he thinks.
Not without Mike Ross.
You mentioned that marvey have tropes used normally in romantic contexts, and i started thinking about it and there are so many of them! The meet cute (and what a meet cute), the 'forgotten first meeting', the break-up make-up scenario of season 3 to name a few.
Hi anon!
Yes, there are so many romantic tropes with Marvey. You could even argue this whole season was the damsel in distress/hero situation. Mike was trapped in prison with one of Harveyâs past arch nemesis while Harvey tried desperately to free him and would stop at nothing to see it done. Not to mention the reconciliation date we just had this last episode with Harvey dressed to impress (buttons undone and everything) and ordering everything off the menu just because he wanted to make sure Mike didnât want for anything and finally him asking Mike back. That whole scene played out like Harvey was on a date with Mike. Then there was the scene in 5x15 where Harvey ran to try to stop Mike and just missed the elevator which was a scene straight out of a romance movie. And you could even argue their entire relationship was basically based off the fake relationship trope where their entire partnership isnât what it appears to the outside world since Mike was a fraud and they have to keep up appearances and protect their secret together. In addition they are the classic âalready marriedâ couple where everyone can see it. Think of all the times other characters have referenced them being boyfriends or married. Plus all the times they have made references to being boyfriends themselves. Harveyâs my date just got here comment when Mike arrived at the party, Mike asking if Harvey put out, Harvey and Scottieâs conversation about Mike being his date but he wouldnât put out. All the times theyâve accused the other of being jealous of someone else and are usually right. Not to mention you could say that Marvey is the classic bad boy trope with Harvey (the bad boy) falling for the more pure of heart (Mike) and Mike changing his world while Harvey tries to be a better man for him. I could go on all day!
But my favorite is always the break-up/make-up scenario of season three. Harvey acted like a lover who had been betrayed and even the way he acted about Mike telling him he told Rachel screamed jealousy with him telling Mike he hoped they were happy together. Then there is Mike trying desperately to win him back and finally giving up and allowing himself to be courted by the new man (Louis) while trying to get over his broken heart. Even the way Louis courted him by taking him on what was essentially a date complete with feeding him spoke to how Louis saw his relationship with Harvey because he was trying to mimic it. Then finally just when Mike was about to go with Louis and commit, Harvey realizes what a mistake heâs made and how much he wants Mike back and comes rushing into Louisâs office like he was the other man trying to stop a wedding at the church and asks Mike to come back to him just in time for Louis to see them reconcile and walk off broken hearted. Tell me that whole arc wasnât straight from a romance movie?
So yeah, one of my favorite things about them is definitely how much their relationship is written like a romance by the writers. They are the main couple on the show and the writers follow the same tropes you would for a romantic pairing to develop their relationship.
Thank you anon for the message! I always love taking Marvey! :)

The guys in suits are shagging right? I'm not imagining things am I? (I need to find out the traditional way so if anyone spoils it for me I'm gonna cry)
Here's my reasoning (I've only binged up to half S4 as I can't currently get a job job so I'm back to TV shows)
1st episode we are showed a man who don't care about nothing a the Bruce Wayne image and a man who is in dire need of a stable life and goes the wrong way to do so ends up Infront of a guy who wants someone to impress him not another Harvard clone and apparently that's a skinny twink with a perfect memory and a degree in sarcasm
Harvey and Mike are always looking at the others ass
Somewhere early s1 Harvey literally calls him a good boy
Mike "three people are my world only they can know things about me" Ross tells Jessica his whole life story to sad Harvey's job
Harvey seems to find mike's ass quite interesting and the same goes for Mike about Harvey's
There are so so so many unexplained explained time skips (research paperwork filing ect) that always end up with an I must tell Harvey and I just miraculously know where he is conclusion so far
THEY KEEP STARING AT EACH OTHERS ASSES
Mike has threatened to quite his dream of all dream jobs for Harvey more times then Pickford had the ball in the game a few hours ago (I think I seriously had a fucking heart attack)
No matter who either one seems to be shagging (Rachel Tess Scottie) they are still staring at eachothers ass
They are each others weak spots in any case not just mike's legality the others name is so much as whispered by the opposing side they snap
There are only a few people Harvey gives a shit about Donna Jess Scottie and obviously Mike however it only took a glance for him to give a shit Harvey Spector does not do feelings the traditional way (he does it in the I will kill everyone that even so much looks at you wrong)
did I mention they have their eyes glued to each other's ass
