maturing is realizing that chrollo will always be doomed, that he will become a villain no matter where he is born. maturing is also realizing that the phantom troupe or some group similar to the spiders was bound to form in meteor city no matter what.
chrollo is intelligent and charismatic, we know that for a fact. sure, he’s had a ridiculous mistakes here and there, but everyone makes mistakes. in meteor city, the elders speak as if chrollo will be the one to solve their problems. “it might be interesting to bring him to the elders’ meeting to hear his opinions” “it would be wonderful if he could solve their various problems plaguing meteor city” (Togashi 395).
adults will manipulate and groom hyper-intelligent children, whether consciously or not. that will never change, no matter the environment. chrollo has a strangely strong sense of responsibility, and this likely stems from his childhood in meteor city, where he was subtly pressured by the elders to help them due to his intelligence.
even if chrollo grew up in a healthier environment, he’d still be groomed to be a genius or incredible person, so chrollo will always be doomed to lead some sort of tragic life.
and the “phantom troupe will always be formed no matter what” is because there will always be a person like chrollo in meteor city. after all, there are millions of people in meteor city. there will be so many people who are above average intelligent among millions. and meteor city civilians lead a harsh life, so the phantom troupe will always be formed in some way shape or form.
