Some new designs, some old designs, and some mixtures of the two. Been pretty productive recently.
All these little treats are currently for sale in the Yorkshire Craft Centre at Bradford College.

These photos pretty much sum up my Nantucket life, with a little snippet of D.C. as well. The changing weather, the food, and the ladies I live with have all become things I love. There’s colourful inspiration everywhere and not being able to make while I’m here is killer. Sketching will have to do for now.
7 weeks down. 10 weeks to go.

Been branching out a little...
Record store customers say the darnest things
In 2002 I stashed a notebook behind the counter of the shop where I work, something I wish I had had the foresight to think of years earlier. Anytime we got a dopey phone call, boneheaded comment, or generally batshit customer experience we’d log it into the book with the date and time of occurrence. We’ve got a few volumes filled at this point. Earlier today I flipped through some back pages and noted favorite entries.
This reminded me A LOT of when I worked the reference desk at a public library. Really, anybody who works with the public should keep such a notebook.

Bit out of practice so pretty pleased with this little chap.
Anniversary gift for a collegues wife for their 7th (copper) wedding anniversary.
"I wish I could be remembered through my work, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen at this point. I sell what I can to keep up with the rent. It’s like a huge rock is chained to my leg and keeps pulling me into the ocean. As long as I keep struggling, I’ll be OK. But the moment I stop, I’ll sink."
Someone had a pretty lonely valentines on the train yesterday...

Last week I saw a tiny smidge of Istanbul. It's a pretty indescribable place.
C.V.
Possibly the two most hated consecutive letters ever.
Shutters by Pejac in Istanbul
"I don’t think the library is threatened. Circulation of physical books has never been higher. But I wouldn’t even agree that libraries are in the book business. I think they are in the information sharing business. And it just so happens that books have been the primary method of sharing information for half a millennium. The library isn’t going to compete with the internet. It’s going to be part of the internet. New York libraries have one of the greatest collections of information in the world, and one of our goals is to have it all curated, linked, and navigable.” "But once you’ve uploaded all your information, haven’t you made yourself obsolete?" "Absolutely not. Libraries provide a third space that is neither home or work, where people can come together and do thinking work. There will always be that need. And a third of New York depends upon the library system for not only free books, but free computers as well. This is especially important to immigrants, because you don’t have to prove anything to get a library card."
I'm doing an internship at Bradford Industrial Museum.
It's got nothing to do with printing. However, one of the museums functional galleries happens to be a print room which is inhabited every Wednesday by Michael (79), Jimmy (81) and Donald (85) who all spent their working lives as letterpress printers. Now retired, they spend their time at the museum keeping the art of letter press printing alive. They are some of the most passionate people I've ever met, and their knowledge is seemingly unending - all 3 of them spent the first 7 years of their printing lives as apprentices before being allowed to work independently on the workshop floor.
Recently it's turned out that I'm the definition of a keen bean, I'm loving museum life, so obviously the only thing to do when faced with a gallery full of printing presses and 3 people full of knowledge that I want to know, is get involved.
It took a bit of convincing but they let me in, and I've just spent my first day printing and being bombarded with crazy amounts of information. It was ace.
I'm pretty sure, amid their confusion as to why I want to be there in the first place, that I've been invited back. I reckon, give me a few Wednesdays and I'll be the new Industrial Museum Print Room Apprentice. 7 years of Wednesdays and I'll be a letterpress genius. Right?

Thanks, to my mate Becki who reminded me that if all else is lost you can still be a masking tape skeleton.
